Someone please clear the Regular Seaon vs Tourney Champ thing up for me......

I've been to the Smith Center several times. I'll visit the museum on the next trip. Presumably a basketball museum?

Definately.

You probably recall that when Mack Brown was at UNC, the Heels football program was improving, but since the basketball program wasn't doing so well, there was no way they wanted that to continue. Basketball is to UNC what football is to UT.

but to take that as support for your extreme position, then you have to acknowledge that it is a significant milestone, one to be celebrated.

I suppose it depends on which program you are talking about and why. For Florida, it means a lot less than it used to.

I would think that right this very moment, which is the only true moment that matters, it is probably significant to the gents in the locker room.

Oh sure, but mostly in the sense that had they had a better season they would be in the NCAAs.

To Florida fans, the bar is set higher now and the NCAA tournament is what its all about. The regular season and the SEC tournament are oriented towards that.

had they won the SEC reg. season title, they would definitely be in the dance.

Again, the fans should be about winning. Tourney garbage takes care of itself for teams that learn how to win.

The fans are "about winning."

In the tournament.

I'd think regular season conf. titles mean something to recruits. Winning them generally means you're going to the Dance with a good seed.

It's not like 5* recruits will be flocking to UGa's campus because they won the Tourney on a miracle run of games.

That no kid goes to UGA because it won the SEC tournament is not proof that someone did to try to win a regular season title. Talk about a lack of logic!

Find me a 5 star recruit looking at colleges, and I'll show you a kid who wants to go where he is going to get seen on tv, which is in the NCAA tournament.

Which they will be in a regular season conference title holder.

The conference tourneys matter much more to the the real small mid major conferences since that is usually the only way for them make it into the dance. For the more recognized conferences, the regular season championship is far more prestigious.

I noticed the severe lack of fans at our reg. season games because they were awaiting the tourney.

Guess those awaiting tourney wins in Gainesville are going to get to see them at home (maybe). Congrats.

Agree!

Incidentally, UF is playing against some of the teams from small mid major conferences who lost their tournament this week. Perhaps LG has simply adopted that mindset for the Gators. That seems reasonable now that UF's chance at winning regular season conference championships has gone back to the slim odds they've enjoyed for so many years prior to their recent 'flash in the pan.'

That's hilarious. We've got nine straight NCAA appearances and a squad this year with no seniors and only one junior and we managed to go 8-8 in the conference. You really think we are a flash in the pan?

for the record, I do not think and have not thought you are a flash in the pan.

I, however, do not see greatness in the crew that you have on board today. Appears to have a serious void in athleticism and that hurts badly on the defensive end.

Yes. And, I fixed your verb usage in your post as it should be past tense instead of present tense.

now that is a very good point. I guess today is truly the day that such drivel about consecutive appearances ended.

Except that UF never had anybody comparable to Russell or KC Jones. Those Dons squads were absolutely dominant. UF, not quite so.

actually, cincy would be the only other that had b2b championships and none other.

Cincy was attributable solely to the Big O and SF to Russell and Jones. UF to a quartet of very good players.

Neither of the other two ever did anything else. Until UF does, that's probably the company they keep.

We also made it to the Final Four two other times in the last 15 years on top of those two championships. That combined with the fact of the nine straight appearances that just came to an end in a year when all that talent left ...

I'm not saying we are a Duke or a Kansas.

But we ain't a flash in the pan. That's just not fair.

I've said you're not a flash in the pan, but of that Champions list, you most closely fit the Dons and the Bearcats. That isn't a bad thing. I'd trade with you in a heartbeat, including this current 2 seeding for your atrocious NIT appearance.
