No they won't. They talk about how they did in the NCAA tournament.

And that's all.
but the question was not about the NCAA. It was about the relative value of the SEC regular season championship vs the SEC Tournament Championship.

and it was answered in terms of "prestige," which doesn't enter into it. Its like asking which is more important, winning the Iowa caucus or the New Hampshire primary? They matter only in terms of where they get you in the big contest.

Meanwhile, shush, I'm trying to fill out my bracket for the NIT tournament. Going to join that big contest they have over on irrelevantsports.com. Winner gets a $10 gift card good for any stock purchase at Bear Sterns.

I agree the regular season championship is the bigger deal.

People talk about everything related to sports and not just how well a team does in the Big Dance. Look around the board and that's evident.

From this point forward, however, since every decent team who deserves to be considered for the national championship is in the NCAA tournament, it's all about finishing well in it. There's no way to get through any bracket and cut down the nets in San Antonio without playing and beating some excellent teams. There is more on the line now than was on the line during the conference tournaments for the higher seeds. Losers go home after every game.

Prestigious was only being used in a relative sense. Would you feel better if I said the reg. season crown was more gooder.

Are you drunk or high or both? Even the minimal threads that aren't labeled "1 seed something something" or "bracket something" or "something round three match-up" are about 80-20 posts about the tournament.

Anyone who says they are "satisfied" or "proud" or "happy" with a regular season SEC championship is certifiable. Like I said before, you'd happily trade that title to advance one more round in the NCAA tournament. Not even close.

I'm pretty sure LG's point is about the choice of words, and comes from the Gators less pretigious position of having won neither.

Where I'm using 'prestigious' as an adjective defined as a synonym for 'respected'.

OMG even worse!

No one gives a (fill in the blank) about the regular season or conference titles except as they relate to getting into the tournament or its effect on your seeding.

Name me one recruit, just ONE, who went to UT because he excited about the prospect of beating Ole Miss in January.

I cannot believe we are even having this conversation.

Substitute "now irrelevant" and I'd be on board.

That's not far from what I said above in 'from this point forward' paragraph above.

However, to say it is not relevant in the sense that it did not happen is flat wrong. It is a conference champsionship.

Also, I don't care one wit about not having won the regular season or SEC tourney titles ... except for the fact that had we won one of those we would be in the NCAAs.

Find one media guide from a single program who prints them and has won one who doesn't mention them.

That and 25 cents will get you a quarter.

I will. As soon as you find one 5 star recruit who cares.

5 star recruits don't publish media guides. Should I check to see if UF mentions regular season conference champsionships or can you just concede that one, counselor?

This whole discussion is fairly disturbing to me because it suggests that you two are actually already making excuses or "yeah buts" for a poor performance in the NCAAs. Trust me, if you don't get past the Sweet 16 with one of the best teams you've ever fielded, the last thing you are going to care about is the "yeah but we won the SEC regular season title."

but you know it's not now irrelevant.

I played a decent bit of college ball and our main goal each season was the conference title.

If it was D1, two questions. First, were there any recruits who said they came to that team to try to win a conference title? Second, would you have traded all of that for a Final Four?

I know you're on your high horse because you did win b2b titles, but prior to that, an SEC Championship was to Florida a very big deal. You're on your way back there now, let us know how irrelevant it is.

you know full well that I'm not trying to make excuses. You're trying to diminish an accomplishment and I'm telling you that you don't know what you're talking about.

Yes it was D1 ball. No, conference championships aren't what everyone set out to win, but it was a big deal to us. That said, we weren't competitive for the big crown. Yes, I would trade for the final four, because it means having won a NCAA regional championship.

Even before our success of the last two years all I cared about was getting into the NCAAs and then how far we could go. We are having a down year, yes, and the thing that sucks about it is not seeing the Florida name in the bracket. I have NO IDEA where we finished the regular season ranking-wise. For the last two weeks all I was thinking about in terms of basketball was how we could get into the tournament.

Its all that matters.
