Great kick returner but I wouldn't describe him as "electric" with the ball in his hands. He has great vision and great speed but he's not shifty and he doesn't hit you.

Not electric? You and I must have different definitions of electric. He is way better than C Patt in the open field.

Why Evan Berry has never been used at RB in his time at UT. Speed to burn, great vision, prototypical RB size, and is electric with the ball in his hands. I know he is rehabbing, but it baffles me that the most dynamic athlete on the roster only gets 1-2 touches per game since his arrival, especially with the shortened kickoff distance.

Maybe since we are a little thin there this Fall he will get a look if fully recovered.

they tried him over there a couple of times to see if he could play position and he didn't adapt to it..

1. maybe Evan doesn't want to be an RB, I remember him saying Eric Berry was his favorite player
2. He already has a second job besides kick return, safety
3. why risk an AA kick returner for 5 touches a game at RB where you are already loaded with NFL talent. we all saw the drop off last year without Evan
4. we already didn't have enough touches for all of our rbs last year, you want to add another to the mix. remember how much AK wasn't used? you are just making it worse

just some thoughts

No, hes not.

Berry doesnt juke a lot. Hes a good returner because he hits the hole at full speed and never hesitates. CP hsd some of the nastiest jukes ive ever seen.

The same reason he doesn't return punts. It takes a somewhat different skill set. Some guys thrive in multi-roles. Most prefer to focus on one or two roles.

Evan is a safety who is also very good at returning kickoffs.

CP ran all over the field, cut backing and running around people. EB just runs, fast.

He's all that but he's also been messing with a bad ham string since he got here it seems. That is the main reason he hasn't gotten more touches to date. Hope he is feeling healthier this year.

That's ludicrous. Berry might be faster even but I'd be surprised if Berry returned kicks at the next level. C Patt is way more electric and athletic than EB

Totally agree...several baffling position designations.

Apart from reasons already given by many, a good reason is unlike kickoff, as a RB you dont always get the ball. Most the times you block for others. You have know all the blocking schemes and be able to pass protect when needed. If they only used Berry in running plays, it would be too damn predictable. That is why you can't get away by simply putting your fastest guy there. RB blocking is a fundamental part of equation.

I got this.

Put Berry 12-15 yds deep behind the qb under center. Snap it, turn, and throw it to Evan. That'll give him enough time to find the hole and hit it full speed.

Blue font?

Nope...

I thought Todd Kelly Jr. looked like a heck of a running back in high school .Was he ever even considered? Any one else remember seeing him play in h.s.?

What was C Pat's average return yardage at UT vs Berry's?

That has nothing to do with direction change and being shifty. Evan Berry, to his credit, sees the hole and hits it fast. CP can change direction so fast, almost Barry Sanders like. Go back and compare their returns. No way you could say Evan is more shifty than CP, but they're both great return men, just different styles

There's a few more factors at play than that. Evan Berry played on a stacked team last year and halfway the year before that. C Pat had no one and a Dooley staff coaching special teams. C Pat is one of the best kick returners in NFL, if Berry even returns a kickoff in the NFL we'll talk.

I couldn't disagree more. When healthy he's been the best kick returner in the nation for the majority of his career.

His only year where he returned kicks for the entire season he was a unanimous 1st team All American. Last year he only played half the season and was still 2nd team All SEC.

Who cares if his style is different than CP's. The kid runs like a damn deer in the open field. Deserves as many touches as possible.

I would be surprised if he DIDN'T return kicks at the next level.

Fundamentally weak arguments for several reasons but I'll take your lead with the ambiguity and leave those reasons out.

You're just being hard-headed at this point.
