Agree 100%. I listened to him sing the National Anthem for years and he was one of the best I'd ever heard. He sung it like it was meant to be sung.

Bitzas retires after 35 years

Recall being at another event in Alabama when VOLS played the Tide around 1995 or so. Listening to the game on the Bama network, their announcer was amazed at Mr. Bitzas' performance of the Anthem from Neyland Stadium.

That was probably Eli Gold but it would've been an "even" year if the game was in Knox. So '94 or '96? Hopefully '96 because that was a UT win.

Was actually in Hoover at a band contest with my son. Might have been '94 OR '95, but don't think Eli Gold was the announcer. TIME is a magazine...WHO knows, but it was in Knoxville.
