I have always seen the resemblance also. BTW Frank Sutton (aka Sgt Carter) was my first cousin, my mom's half brother's son.
She and Frank used to play together. I have pictures of Frank in knickers as a boy.

The door gunner was originally supposed to be the drill instructor, but the marine they hired to consult for it absolutely killed it so Kubrick was like yeah you're doing this now.

Just in case you don't know... that isn't Sgt Carter in the poster. That's an actual DI and that was an actual recruiting poster the Marines used through the 70s and 80s.

Though honestly I wouldn't think a lot of VN's denizens would know who Sgt Carter is either.

actually it is a paid actor,when i was in the
Navy we asked why we couldn't have longer hair like in the posters

we were told due to paper work and such that actors are used
