Some Telling Comments by Coach P

I'm surprised you guys expect a reasonable amount of truth and unbiased summaries from Rexvol. On a positive note, at least he is not copying and pasting entire quotes from other sites and pawning it off as his own information anymore.

John Palermo recently made some interesting satements on several players;

On Daniel McCullers: He noted the hard work that went into losing almost 40lbs. Still needs work on his conditioning.

Greg Clark: weighs 320 and needs conditioning work.

Trent Taylor: Has talent but is inconsistent.

Danny O’Brien: Has improved after after spending last 3 months in Kville.

Omari Phillips: fat and out of shape.

Steven Fowlkes: coach speak for dont expect much

Corey Miller: pass rusher only, cannot stop the run

Obviously Couch and Sentimore are 1st Team, who will join them? “Marlon, Hood, Saulsberry, and Taylor are the front runners.

Palermo on whether he has a lot of similar players or some who stand out more than others: “That’s a good question, and I can’t tell you I’ve got an honest answer for you at this particular point. There’s two guys that have really stood out, and that’s Couch and Sentimore. Right now a lot of the other guys are bunched up a little bit.”

Palermo on depth: Basically doesnt know if we have what we need to compete. Says he wants to watch the scrimmage first which to me means that we do not.

this is the part I find hard to believe him saying.Tn isnt hurting on talent on the DL.If its true I dont see him coming out and saying this.

Love Palermo's attitude. He seems to be no nonsense, blunt, and direct with his comments. His commentary was entirely different than the skewed Rex notes above. Effort, work ethic, and commitment were conveyed in his statements which will equate wins. You can tell he is getting accustomed to the differences in the 3-4 scheme as he admitted his experience was with the 4-3. Reserved depth chart evaluations till scrimmages to really see performance in the multiple schemes.

Here's the real message from Coach P:

Couch and Sentimore are starters, the other spots are up for grabs.

The end.

I've heard nothing but rave reviews on Clark, Fowlkes, & Miller. McCullers is still a rookie and of course is going to need more work on his game, even after losing weight. Palermo probably didnt have his prune juice and maybe a couple of the guys didnt have their best practice of camp, etc. He's just being a coach...pointing out areas of improvement of individual players. Everyone of the dlineman needs work in areas...even the starters, that doesnt mean he is saying they can't compete or that we are terrible??? Interesting interpretation by Rex.

I watched the video, and it didn't sound negative to me. He said we need to get better which is what most coaches say this time of year but he also said at about 1:47 that we were about where he expected us to be. He also said we were working hard and making improvements. Sorry, but that just doesn't sound all that negative to me.

The Rex haters to need to change their tampins. He at least brings info here. Who gives a rats if it is copy/paste. Get over it ladies.

I'm confused, Coach says the sky is getting blue, Rex copies and pastes something that says a hurricane is coming and you are good with it? Head up butt much?

There isn't a single person on the planet who weighs 300+ lbs and couldn't use a little more conditioning.

What'd you say?

I just want to know what tampins are. Sounds painful.

In a 3-4 scheme, that is always the case for 4-3 DE's. They only fit on passing downs, or when we go "Multiple" and give a 4-3 look...which will probably be more common than most expect here.

EDIT: One other thing to keep in mind is that we really don't need McCullers playing every down. We have plenty of depth at NT, and Phillips is one of those that can come in only for a few plays to give Big Mac a breather. So, conditioning is less of a concern when you have good depth.

Good insights.

I also think that UT will use alot of 4 down fronts. Seems like "Coach P" did alludge to that.
