For those that don’t know, a young couple just started Heart and Soul Church at Bearden High School, and it seems to be doing really well.

They recently brought in Alontae Taylor to speak, and did it interview style. He seems to have a great heart and a true passion for Jesus. Very cool to watch, certainly makes me view him in a different light considering how hard it must be to stay rooted in your values at as a D1 athlete in a major program.

You can watch the interview/testimony here:

How can they legally host this at a public school?
They actually have religious activities in several areas. The schools in East Tennessee have a group called P7 (Project 7) that started at Volunteer High School. It is actually a national movement now. If you don't think that today's generation doesn't need the positive message of Christ in their schools, I am very sorry for you.

You should reconsider. I thought the same thing and continued to listen through to it’s entirety.
Thankful and glad I did. It did me good.
Powerful message from such a young Man!
Alontae has a bright future, with or without football.
I had to give up on it after about 30 seconds, with the (preacher?) talking about "Volunteers fan-bois" and "young girls lining up" to meet Alontae, and asking if he's single...it was just all really cringe. Never even got to hearing Alontae. Pity.

I don’t really see the harm in any of that to be honest.

I went to church for 8 years in a public school. I know you may not know but you CAN NOT discriminate against an organization just because they are CHRISTIAN. I even have a first cousin a principal in another school district who ask me how we got away with it. I was TOTALLY stunned....She didn't understand it was ILLEGAL to discriminate against a church IF any other organization meets in that facility.

Why do you have to be sorry for them? They can have their own beliefs. "Feeling sorry" for someone who doesn't ask for your pity is just a form of intolerance because you are essentially appointing yourself judge over their character. I don't believe intolerance / judgement to be core tenets of Christianity the last time I checked.

It’s great that he did this, but the pastor is just cringe. Really? UT fanboys? Why don’t you just say vol fans.

I think the issue is a public school is a tax payer purchased asset and the constitution forbids the government from being in the establishing of religion business. The founders were pretty smart and this clause protects both as it guards against a theocracy and protects religious organizations from government interference. Pretty smart cookies.
I also haven’t seen too many school systems letting mosques or temples rent space so pushing the discrimination button for Christian churches could get iffy.

A local government renting out school space to a church off hours is a far cry from 'Congress establishing a religion.' It's perfectly legal. Heck, we even have chaplains employed by the Federal government and chapels running church services out of federal buildings - including Islamic and Jewish Temple services.

I haven’t read a single other comment here but I want to start by saying I love Alontae. He’s one of my favorite players of this generation, and I think there’s even more to be proud of off the field and obviously in the future.

Having said that...

Worst ****ing interview I’ve heard with a player and worst ****ing interview I’ve EVER heard. Damn

I’m glad they do. We need Christ back into our schools.
It's not that simple.
Christ isn't the only diety worshipped in United States anymore. In all honesty He never was the only one.

School is supposed to be a neutral place.
Even the Pledge of Allegiance is not being specific about Christianity, but Deism.
There are muslim, hindu, and various other eastern religions fully embedded into America.

If you want to worship Christ then go to church. Pray during lunch break to yourself.
Be courteous to your fellow Americans.
How would you feel if you as a Christian were forced to pray 5 times to a day toward Mecca??

It doesn't matter what's in your heart. There is a time and place for everything.

I must of struck a nerve with the long response. There is only one living God. Praying for your soul.

We have an handful on this site who don't realize the McDonald's bag joke is way over with but they still go to it like they're the first to think of it. As far as the pastor doing it...it's ok...probably most people didnt get the joke anyways.
He doesn’t sound like someone who watches football for the sport. First thing he asked Taylor was if he was single
