When you look at this team they have shown heart and improvement as the season has progressed. The fact that the defense was in the field for nearly 3 quarters of football, and still had enough in the tank to make that goal line stand speaks volumes. We have a lack of depth at several key positions. We have something like 65 scholarship players, where everyone else we play has the full 85 allowed. Next year we should finally have the full roster of players. There will still be a lot of youth, but we should see a big step forward. I believe we are 2 years away from really being able to compete with Alabama, Georgia, and UF. We are getting there. Proud of the progress to this point.

We have 65 HEALTHY scholarship players. We have more than that. But no, we will still be behind the 8 ball next year because we can only bring in 25, and we are losing several seniors: Warrior, Bituli, Taylor, Jennings, Calloway, DWA, just to name a few. I still don't think we will be at the 85 next year.

But yes, we are heading in the right direction. However the names I just mentioned are going to be difficult to replace. We have got to land some instant contributors in this years recruiting class.

I heard CJP say in one interview that next year we should have the full compliment of 85. Just going off what the coach said.

One day we won't be rebuilding...as we have been for over a decade...even I40 construction eventually ended
Not sure if I40 construction ended, or they just gave up.

This team has had its share of problems with rebuilding. LK leaving in the darkness of the night, and taking several recruits to USC hurt. DD was less than stellar in recruiting, and his last year was abysmal. BJ didn't take any big uglies in one class, which really set us up for a big hole in depth in the trenches. Now we seem to have coaches that develop talent, and can recruit. I believe recruiting continues to gain steam over the next 2 seasons.

We might be able to back count a few more to 2019 and Blueshirt a few more to 2021.

Also we have at least two scholly players sitting out due to transfer (Hill & Gibbs), plus RS players like Lampley, Brandon Johnson, Simmons, Akporoghene, etc who are currently unavailable. Actually Simmons can play out and keep his RS.

I know there were posters in the game thread saying we should just let UK score at the end so we could get the ball back. I was very impressed at the D tonight.

But we were told DD and BJ were doing an excellent job recruiting...you all said so.
Not everyone said so.

If you can't see improvement, and player development that this staff has accomplished, then you must be wearing blinders. Look at all the youth on the field. These kids are playing at a very good level to be freshmen and sophomores. There are a few seniors, but this team has an unusually high level of underclassmen playing.

1. You can no longer blue shirt. That's changed in the past few years.
2. Transfers still count towards the 25.
3. You're right about the redshirt though, that does help.

I agreed (gave a like I believe) w the poster who said that and admit IWas WRONG. We were able to move the ball during the 2nd half, so I thought we would answer w at least a field goal if KY scored.

KY was gashing our defense and had all the momentum after the UT fumble so I was for sure KY would score. That’s why coaches say players must play every play to the whistle. I was definitely wrong and happy we go the Dub.

I admit that the thought had some merit in the moment. That's why I'm so impressed with this defense. I've said it several times, but I have to say it again. The most impressive thing tonight was that this team found a way to win an ugly game. We've struggled to close out good games recently. I think it was a breakthrough.

Thanks for the info: Gibbs and Hill waited out this season and they I believe they are 2019 recruits.
