Some of you people just don't get it

Trying to compare what nick saTan did his first few years to bUTch and our Vols is just plain dumb.

When saTan took over at alaBubba there was 1 HUGE difference...team talent.

The previous coaches at alaBummer were not good coaches but they WERE good recruiters so the talent level and depth talent WERE much better when saTan arrived in tuskaLoser than what bUTch has now and it's not even close.

If nick saTan had come to Tennessee instead of bUTch this year I honestly don't believe we would have won anymore games than we have with the serious lack of talent and depth that CDD left us with.

saTan would have also implemented his 3-4 D at Tennessee this season and we all saw how well these same players did last year with the saTan 3-4 D in place.

I love how many people here love to compare apples to pears and think it's actually logical, LOL!

I absolutely HATE losing and especially HATE seeing my Vols get blown out but I'm really not surprised with the serious lack of SEC starting talent and depth we have because the majority of talent we really have is MAC level talent thanks to CDD.

I want and expect much better from my Vols but I also see that we're not a roster of very many real SEC starting quality players despite how UNrealistic so many are when they claim we have good talent which we do NOT have.

It's going to take us several years of really good recruiting classes to be able to catch up with the top SEC and National teams despite what we fans really want.

I'll be really happy if we make it to any bowl game this season because with this talent that will be improvement.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

Losing close didn't help Arkansas in 1998, nor did it give them a share of the BCS title.

Losing close didn't help UT under Kiff when we played Bama and had a late field goal blocked. There are no asterisks in the record books.

Losing close didn't help us this year against UGA, and/or didn't help SCAR in Neyland.

Extrapolate out from what you are saying. Would you really feel better if we were 0-10 right now, but only lost by a combined 10 points if that means losing to teams we should have beaten by 1 point and also losing to teams we should have lost to by the same margin?

So by the same token , that at 4-6 we are no better than we were this time last year ...

btw I said in the end a loss is a loss . But yes losing 34 -24 to Auburn , 31-27 to Mizzou and 35-21 to Alabama would at least show me this team is competing and getting better . If you can't see and understand that then go ahead and be happy with the azz whippins we are receiving

Technically he didn't win any games that season. Weren't they all vacated?

Historically Bama played #16 Arkansas and won by 4, #22 UGA and lost by 3, #20 UT and won by 24, #3 LSU and lost by 7 and #25 Auburn, a 7 point loss.

So he played 5 top 25 teams, and beat two.
If you look at averages this year UT played 7 teams with an average ranking of 7th best in the country. That year, Bama played 5 teams with an average ranking of 17th. I would say Jones first year is far more difficult than Saban's, and that isn't considering the difference in talent inherited by both coaches.

His first season wins, before the NCAA wiped the slate, were against Western Carolina, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Houston, Ole Miss, UT and Colorado. With a surprising loss against La-Monroe.

As I said before, I don't like comparing the two coaches, but if I had to chose I would rather get blown out by really good teams, than have a bunch of close losses to good teams and an embarrassment against an awful team if the end result is the same record.

Daj you could at least be consistent . In one post you claim it doesn't matter what the score is, a loss is a loss and then in the next post you talk about Saban and his margins of victory and strength of schedule . Make up your mind

We've been recieving those since Fulmers last couple of years. Let's not act like it just started since CBJ got here. Man, some of you are clueless.

I go away for the weekend, knowing that Auburn is going to dominate on Saturday (but secretly hoping for an upset). I come back and its as if the friggen sky is falling because we lost to yet another top 10 team. We are doing the right things, you silly fans however act like turning a totally crappy program into a legendary one can be done near instantaneously and on willpower alone. First you start drinking koolaid and thinking we can "dominate" (not just beat) top 10 teams, then run around like headless chickens and threaten to commit ritual fan suicide because we got owned as expected. I see some of you idiots even saying KY is going to own us for sure.

NEWSFLASH to some of you people - UT IS NOT A TOP 10 TEAM THIS YEAR no matter who is coaching it. Considering this schedule and the lack of depth we have at almost any position, its amazing we have done what we have done so far.

Now I know we all hoped Coach Jones would make some major improvements this year in spite of the garbage heap he was given and the nations most brutal schedule. IMHO he has done so. Out of 10 games so far, 5 have been Top 10 teams and 2 more have been Top 20. Astonishingly, we actually pulled off an upset of a #11 team and allllllmost did so for a #6. But we arent going to upset many or we would actually BE a top 10 team.

I am happy with seeing our offense continue to grow and see that we have some really decent possibilities next year at QB and receivers who can get open even if they havent yet learned to catch the ball. Defense needs some help but then its harder to gauge when they are on the field the whole game against top teams with no replacements. Recruiting is phenomenal, considering our past couple of years.

Now Vandy is not going to be candy this year and only has KY between us and game day but with us getting some rest after playing the friggen giant schedule I think we should be able to be up 3-7 against them and beat KY by 14. That is a real test for us but as decent as Vandy is this year, I think its going to seem like running downhill after what we have been through the last 3 weeks.

At the beginning of the year, any clear eyed analyst would be very happy with the prospect of 6-6 and one big upset. Of course, we thought Auburn would be a walkover this year and nope, even they kickass. So considering - if we go 6-6 this year and head to a bowl game, give all the true freshmen and people time to actually learn new systems, recruit like we are doing right now - in 2-3 years this team WILL be a top 10 team again and a very solid program. Jones is not Dooley part Deux (he has been a winner on his own and not just the son of one). Until then, grow the heck up and temper your expectations with some reality.

I was optimistic before this season...offhandedly I was giving Dooley more credit than deserved for at least a competent base of talent. All that was desired was an inkling of playing above themselves against the monsters of the SEC and not GIVING UP...verdict mixed bag ..this is taking into account TWO expected wins...Mizzou and Auburn resulting in epic manhandling...But I took for granted that USCe would be a loss...I wasn't thrilled with Worley's handiwork throughout the season but felt that Butch KNEW our QB children weren't better options and wanted them developed...all of the gnashing of teeth and DEMANDS to burn their redshirts notwithstanding, who ended up right? I want more...all fans do..But I don't set off a fertilizer bomb cuz I ain't GOT TIME TO WAIT!...let the man work!...with the staff he wants!...if the team is uninspired next year with a load of his recruits and a year of his system in place, I won't have Orange blinders on, but I have a feeling the menstrual cramps won't be as pronounced on this board...this time next year :clapping:

what we got here is a mix of realist, trolls and dumbasses that mix this all up.

OP goes away ? misses the game -- not a true fan

Yeah, I keep trying to tell my wife that Saturday is a High Holy Sacred Day in TN that must be honored - but sadly, she cant find that in the Bible anywhere so the family has to go on vacation.

Why is it all you negavols INSIST on comparing Butch to Saban? as if falling anything short of that level is insta-fail. I expect Butch to grow into an SEC coach that dominates the East and legitimately competes on the national stage but it is ridiculous to expect he is going to be the second coming of Neyland or Saban (as much as I do hope for it). Once we achieve a competitive level again (2-3 years) THEN we can start putting those expectations on him, to step up and grow further but throwing all of this "well, Saban did this his first season, Saban did that" is just silly. The situations were not comparable and frankly, Saban is a once in a generation coach/program (as much as I must grind my teeth to admit that).

You are right...some of you are idiots!! You go away for a weekend and close your eyes!! Please look at what you are saying!! The defense is worse than last years!!!! I guess you are ok with losing all the time. For the salaries these coaches are being paid, we need a little more effort on defense. Oh yes, Jancek was fired at Georgia because he had no clue about defense......Maybe you can go away for another weekend and all this will just go away.....for me, I want to see IMPROVEMENT for the millions the coaches are getting paid!!!!!!

Go back and view this post to see why I have calculated that there are exactly 9 negavols (I use that term because I know they hate it) in this thread.

If you go back and read the thread you will find just as many Kool Aid Kids comparing Butch and Saban as "Negavols" . I keep seeing ULM being mentioned as proof that Saban was horrible his first year

Because most of them are fair-weather fans who are currently cheering for the Bubbas.

Oh yes, Jancek was fired at Georgia because he had no clue about defense......

Nothing factual about that statement other than he was fired at UGA. He was LB coach at UGA for 4 successful seasons before becoming co-DC for 1 season. He was fired because Richt had to fire some people to keep his job after a bad season. He had a defense at Cincy that was top 20 as far as points scored against. You can say that was the Big East and not the SEC, which is true, but that is a conference that was known more for high scoring offenses and weak defenses, yet he was able to put together some pretty good defenses there against those high scoring offenses. It doesn't necessarily prove he is a great DC, but it does disprove your notion that he has no clue about defense.
