We know Butch is out and we know Brady Hoke will assume the role of interim head coach. According to Jimmy Hyams, Jones was given the option to coach the last two games but declined.

A team meeting is scheduled for 1pm and an official release is expected from UT sometime after.

Interesting comment from Swain

Seems as though the rumblings here were true and the buyout had already been negotiated.

Some potential candidates: Dan Mullen at Misssissippi State, Scott Frost at Central Florida, Mike Norvell at Memphis, Chad Morris at SMU, Matt Campbell at Iowa State, Justin Fuente at Virginia Tech and two defensive coordinators: Brent Venables at Clemson and Jeremy Pruitt at Alabama.

While many have mentioned Jon Gruden as a candidate, that is highly unlikely. Sources have told me if he returns to coaching, it would be in the NFL.

Will be interesting to see how the team responds to this. I wonder if the offense will improve at all, now that Butch isn't on the sidelines.

Funny Currie gave Butch the option to coach last two games considering he hasn't coached a game all season.

Hoke is the logical choice for interim. This had to happen to save the recruits. Now the fun begins.

Feeling of happiness, sadness that we are here, hope, anxiousness and overall optimism now. If we have recruits drop off because of this, so be it. They were coming to play for Butch who couldn't put it together and beat anybody this year worth their salt. They should be coming because of the PLACE, not the COACH...but understand the hurt feelings.

Now...Go get someone who can COACH!!!! No bargain basement shopping, please.

GBO!!!!!

Thanks Coach Jones for putting the program on a rebuild path, proving you CAN recruit at TN, and there's no reason TN cannot compete at a higher level. Good luck in your next venture!

I'm still miffed that Currie gave him the OPTION to coach the last two games... that's crazy... grow some cojones, Currie.

Thought Butch would make something of his opportunity. He did have the Vols going in a positive direction on some fronts. Until he didn't. He should give Josh Dobbs some of his buyout money as a token of appreciation for keeping his job as long as he did.

After all those “leadership reps” “you got my back” the guy is quitting on his players with 2 games left? If this is true it shows it was never about them and always about him.
