Quick rundown of some high profile first year coaches so far:

Frost 0-1
Taggart 1-1 (and they look horrible)
Ch. Kelley - 0-2
Mullen 1-1 (lost to KY at home)
Sumlin 0-2
Chad Morris (Ark) 1-1 and lost to Colorado St

Jimbo is the only one who looks like he has a pretty good team in year 1

It just takes time to rebuild. If it were an easy fix, the last guy shouldn’t have been fired at all these respective schools

I was suprised at what kellen mond was able to do against Clemson, you have to give jimbo some props on developing the kid. I surely thought Clemson would pull
Away late in that game.

Jimbo is a good coach. TAM should be able to pull excellent talent and KF is no easy place to play. They should be a solid program.

Yes it does if you know how to read thread titles
Yeah, i guess i just dont really care what other programs do if their names are not Tennessee and Navy.i didnt expect the vols to be good this year so i guess i dont need the perspective.
I mostly suprised by how bad UCLA and FSU look. I never wanted CK but would have liked a WT hire.

I agree. I disliked Kyle field prior to their renovations. I didn’t like how they had this huge stadium that was nice but it looked so separated with its previous setup. Now that they’ve tied all the sections together it looks legit imo. I’m sure the sound resonates better with the renovations too, I’d be curious of the decibel levels recorded Saturday night in college station.

Methinks this thread is more about Mullen than Pruitt.....(And yes, I was in favor of hiring Mullen last November)

I think the OP was trying to get some of the Vol Fans to see becoming great doesn't happen over night and used his info for proof. He hasn't figured out yet he is not dealing with rational fans for the most part. I WANT WHAT I WANT AND I WANT IT NOW attitude is not realistic. Again, Pruitt didnt cause this mess and he wont be able to fix it over night.

The Vols are going to get better as the season goes, it is obvious we are getting better coaching. For the ones the are waving the white flag before the season has barely got going I say quit moaning and groaning and get behind your team or quit following. You can discouraged and still find positives if you open your eyes. GBO!!!!!!!

Some coaches, like Jimbo, walked into a team roster that has more talent and at the 2 deep than CJP inherited.

I suspect that the floriDUHHH roster of D players is better than what CJP inherited too.

Year 1 is really tough when the player roster you inherited is weak at the starter level and worse on the 2 deep.

That always takes several years of good recruiting to churn the player roster and totally rebuild it.

It's even worse wen the mentality of the players is bad and they believe they're nothing but a bad team and losers.

Changing the mindset and culture is a really tough task.

Pruitt and staff inherited the worse team in Tennessee history and that's a multi-year rebuild no matter how badly we hate it.

VFL...GBO!!!

The vols are not good.

Does knowing that other coaches (teams) arent good help anyone ?

Yes. I want a world where we've taken the place of Alabama and all 120+ other schools are UTEP. I would settle for the SEC being filled with weak sisters. I never have understood Tennessee fans rooting for SEC teams when they play someone out of conference. If everyone else has to be bad for us to dominate, then so be it.

I could give you examples of new coached who did well also. Gene Chizik. National Champs in 1st or 2nd year. Saban. Won national champ in 2nd year. Gus did well his 2nd year. James Franklin improved a lot at Vandy and at Penn State.
It is not in common for that to happen

Is anyone truly surprised that the Vols aren't showing as championship contenders in the first season of a complete overhaul of the football program? These first couple of years will, if the players buy in completely, give the staff a strong base on which to then start seeing the type of results they were hired to get. But everyone knows this! What this first season needs to be is for us fans to somehow be happy when there are "moments" here and there that show some growth and potential. Finding joy in the occasional nice play for now, then watching how the team builds on them, is probably the best we can hope for. And that's not a bad thing! Not this season -- and probably not next season -- but by Season Three we should know for sure whether the new regime is getting through to the players and whether contending for championships is going to be a Tennessee thing again or not.

GO VOLS!!!!
