I am copying and pasting from TOS, but I think that it is accurate:

The four teams that UGA has played this year are ranked 80th or lower in passing offense (Mizzou 97th, Buffalo 112th, FAU 114th, Vanderbilt 82nd), and a similarly bad group of overall offenses (Mizzou 99th, Buffalo 73rd, FAU 120th, Vanderbilt 80th).

Interesting enough, FAU converted 9/16 3rd downs through the air, including 6 of their first 8, and they are one of the worst passing teams in the country. Also, 2 of the 4 teams UGA has played this season have actually far exceeded their 3rd down conversion average.

Just remember that this heralded UGA team gave up at least 28 points 5 times last season, despite having an extremely tame schedule.

Vanderbilt has only scored 2 TD's against D-1 teams this year, FAU may be the worst D-1 team in the country, Buffalo only scored 7 on Kent State, and Missouri was basically shut out against South Carolina.

Don't be surprised if we can throw the football on UGA, and throw it well.

Interesting. I just want to see UT bring it for 60 minutes. If we get beat by a better team fair and square that's fine, just play hard and stay mentally involved for all 4 quarters. That's all I ask. Everything else will happen as it may.

UGA is very good, but these are good reasons to think we can compete. A win would go a long way in making this a good season.

I just don't want our play-callin to look too predictable (we in wildcat = 100% chance we won't pass; Bray back to pass = 100% chance he will not pull it down and run, etc.)

Bray may carve the Dawgs up too if our WR's catch the ball & not have hands of stone in this game or for the rest of the season. We need no fumbles or interceptions...need to bring the A game & hit'em hard right out of gate. We need to go hard & fast..no huddle would work UGA's azz hard to stay up.

I have said we can move the ball on GA, but they will definitely move the ball on us. Our weakness will not being able to put points on the board imo, but rather our inability to keep them from putting more. I am afraid our secondary is about to get indecently exposed.

I havent lost hope on this season as some have, i may not be as optimistic as i was right after the NC State game, but i still believe that we can win this game. I really dont think there is a huge talent gap, i think the difference is gonna be our attitude and mind set. If the guys in orange adopt the same "whoa is me" menatality that many around here (VN) have, and they take the field in Athens with no confidence and no motivation, it will be ugly, but i really dont think thats gonna happen. I think show up motivated, we fight, and i think we show up to play ball, and i think we go to Athens and get the win. We need to do the same thing that CDD advised the players and coaches to do, forget about the UF game, this week we have the opportunity to take another huge step toward the top. We either get our minds right and take care of buisiness, or we go in to this game with the attitude that we cant win, or when things go wrong "here we go again" and stop fighting and we end up crawling back to Knoxville with our tails between our legs. I think they get it done.

The Vols haven't played top notch competition so far this year either. The best defense they've faced based on stats (since that's what everyone wants to point to) is Florida. They have the number 31 ranked pass defense (based on YPG) thus far. And Florida's rush defense isn't exactly stellar. Solid, but not top tier (nor has Georgia's been all that good). But Florida held Tennessee to 83 yards rushing.

The other teams the Vols have played:

NC State - 42nd against the pass
Akron - 60th against the pass
Georgia State (FCS Division) - 113th in the FCS against the pass (10th from the bottom)

That's not to say Georgia is great against the pass. They are currently 45th. However, with the exception of the Missouri game, Georgia has had big leads early on which means they've been putting in some of the second string in some of these games. For example, Vandy had 155 of their 231 yards passing in the 2nd half. It was 27-3 at half. Of course they are going to throw more to try and get back in the game. Missouri had 130 of their 269 yards passing in the 3rd quarter when it was still a game. They had 17 yards passing in the 4th quarter when Georgia started taking over the game.

This game will likely be close just because it's UGA vs Tennessee. As I said in another thread, if Georgia establishes a successful running game early it could be a long afternoon for the Vols. I'd also like to see how Bray does under pressure. He tends to get rid of the ball early and has a quick release which makes it hard to get pressure on him. If he has time to sit in the pocket, he may pick Georgia apart. But the same can be said for Murray.

I can't wait. Should be a great game.

It is pointless to bring facts to the argument when there are people who base their opinion on nothing but emotions. The game is nowhere near a lost cause. Now, will our defense be able to slow down their offense? That is a big question mark for sure. And it being in Athens is obviously an obstacle. But our offense will score against their defense. A key turnover at the right time of the game and it could go either way.

But nothing was said about Georgia's offense and our defense.

Murray is going to carve us up like a Thanksgiving Day turkey.

Really? U think that highly of that little shrimp. I'm not so impressed. Uga has a good run game and has been pretty good defensively for the last year or so but I'm not afraid of Murray. In fact call me crazy but I think we throw all over th and win!

I'm going to try my best to forget the Florida game and just hope that they are the best team in the SEC east and just weren't playing at their potential the first few games. The Vols have the talent to match up with Georgia. If UT can contain Murray from running, then we have a chance. He is a very mobile QB and that seems to get overlooked.

I think that depends on Murray. He could have made a Heisman tape off of us last year if he connected half his throws. He looked very inconsistent against Mizzou on his deep ball IMO. I'm most concerned about our pressure on him and his feet, especially at the edge.

In summary: his pocket presents are short sometimes underwhelming but he delivers them fast and they're elusive.

im starting to think playing in Athens may be better for us at this moment. Neyland was great for the UF game, but i think sometimes getting away from "the norm" and sorta "into the enemies camp" makes you more motivated and more supportive and dependent on each other. Maybe it will make a difference, maybe not. We have had teams in the past that just seemed to play better away. Hopefully thats the case, at least this week.

Did you watch the game from two years ago when he not only passed but ran all over us as a freshman?

Here you go. Murray 2010 stats vs the Vols:

College Football Tennessee / Georgia Box Score

17 of 25 for 266 yards and 2 TD's, 7 carries for 41 yards and 2 TD's

2011 stats vs the Vols:

15 of 25 for 227 yards no TD's, 6 carries for 19 yards and no TD's.

College Football Georgia / Tennessee Box Score

Murray's been running less this year and throwing much better.

Not that it will happen again this year, but do you Vols fans remember how much rushing yardage you had last year against the Dawgs (minus 21)? It wasn't much better the year before (9 yards).

Tennessee gave up 139 yards rushing vs UGA last year and I'm confident we have a better running game this year. The question will be the Vols run defense. If they can hold Georgia to less than 125 yards, I think the Vols stand a great chance to win the game because I'm not confident of Georgia's secondary. Maybe having Rambo back there will help. At least I hope so.

If Georgia starts believing their own hype, then they just might overlook a team like the Vols and get beat.

I'm sorry ... I really do love my Vols ... but, I've been right here watching them for about 3-5 years now.

"Oh no, here we go again."

Some of us just need them to show us different, that's all. Give me a reason to believe.
