Listed below are Tennessee's rushing totals as a team year by year 2004-10. I have our team totals compared to the National Champion from that year along side.

2004 UT-2418, USC-2306
2005 UT-1411, Texas-3574
2006 UT-1404, Florida-2240
2007 UT-1946, LSU-2998
2008 UT-1475, Florida-3235
2009 UT-2043, Alabama-3011
2010 UT-1420, Auburn-3987

I love watching Bray throw the ball around the field to Rogers and Hunter as much as anyone, but until we establish ourselves as a team that has a running game that strikes fear into people, we might as well not worry about winning any championships.

I didn't even have a response to that. It just upset me.

Auburn had almost 4000 yards in rushing last year? That's insane

Just what I want to read on a friday! It's true though. UT has got to be able to run the ball better

Is that counting bowl games and SECC?

Yes, total years stats, so every year except 04 and 07, the Champs had an extra game. But, I don't think that would've really mattered looking at how lopsided the stats are.

So you are saying if we get 2240 yards rushing this year, we could be national champs?

The 2004 and 2007 years were padded an extra game for Tennessee. And the 2005 and 2008 years were short two games for Tennessee.

I'm saying that we have to have a dependable running game to ever win a championship. We can't continue to rush for a mediocre amount of yards against quality opponents and ever expect a change in our status in the SEC. Remember, this stat could get much uglier if i brought up rushing yards per year against quality SEC opponents. Keep in mind that Auburn ran for over 400 yards on LSU last year.

Yes if you want to get exact. You think we make up the difference if we had 2 extra games?

Numbers wise yes, 2 games could be -10 yards or +400 yards. 2 of the 3 lowest years were 2005 and 2008.

Championships? I just want to win 8 games this year and 9-10 next. 'Course 7 wins could take the SECe, so while we have taken a parabolic fall, others have fallen, too.

It would just make everyone happier if you posted yards per game instead of total yards. The fact that our number of total games was different for 4 out of the 7 years posted makes it tough to really see the trend.

Put an asterisk by USC's. They used an ineligible player for a lot of those yards

Texas and Auburn rushed for so much due to their ridiculously athletic QB's (Young and Newton). Wonder how many we had when Tee Martin was our QB.
