Are you guys sold on starting Jonathon Crompton, who has some solid experience, next season, or would you rather see a freshman take the field?

It's very hard for a freshman to have great success at the QB position in the Southeastern Conference, and Crompton did show signs of success this year - particularly in the Kentucky game.

Do you keep Crompton at starter, or use someone else?

Considering we probably won't sign a QB this year, I think we're stuck with Crompton, Stephens, or Coleman. I think that Coleman is the guy, to be honest.

I like the way Nick can throw the long ball with some accuracy. I really think it will be him or JC.

I hope you weren't serious about that. Jonathan Crompton's "success" in the UK game mainly consisted of handing off 53 times to running backs who ran the ball effectively behind an offensive line that did a good job. We tried to throw the ball 10 times and Crompton managed to get sacked on two of those.

If we plan on playing Crompton next year, we might as well dust off one of General Neyland's old playbooks and go back to the single wing.

Speaking on his solid experience. It isn't too good.

I might throw some of the blame for the offense at Fulmer/ Clawson and Co., but his keen radar on his #1 WR, then pull it down and attempt to Tebow was High Schoolish at best.

I haven't written him off, but as of right now I expect Stephens or Coleman to be the starting QB this year.

I'll leave yall today with something to ponder on while I sleep until nightshift brings me back for 1 more. Witch QB do yall predict will be easier to coach up to start in the fall and why?
JC
NS
BJ C
IMO I'll say Nick Stephens. It sounds crazy to say, but I liked the fit he threw. To me, it showed a passion for perfection.
Just curious. Take it easy,all.

I still think Crompton could be good... Remember, Kiffin was recruiting him to go to USC when Kiffin was still there.

I still think that the extremely complicated, bizarre blocking schemes that Clawson tried to implement screwed up the line play last year. I don't care if you have Peyton Manning as QB, if he's only got 1.5 seconds to decide where to throw the ball, he's not going to be the Peyton Manning we all know. Crompton with good o-line play will be good.

I think you are correct.

IMO Stephens has the most potential, he had very good touch on the long ball, pass completion % needs a lot of work, but that shouldnt be to hard to polish up with proper coaching. Why waste 1 year on crompton, he has had his chance and we all seen the result, give stephens or coleman the "gametime" experience. If neither pans out start anew with the 5 star qb kiff recruits in 2010.

I think JC or NS....probably JC.

It will be one of the 3 for sure. We are a month away from signing day and have no QB. I am SO ready for spring practice.

Well let me put it this way then.

All 3 QB's that took the field in 2008 sucked. Plain and simple. All of them were awful and average on their best day with Coleman having the smallest sample size.

With that criteria set I'll look at attitude. I'll take Coleman and Stephens any day over Crompton in that area.

Nick Stephens

I agree. Crompton's playing days are over. It won't take Lane very long to realize what CPF failed to admit about Crompton, and that is that he does not have it between the ears. The kid has all the physical ability in the world, but lacks decision making and knowing what type of defense the other team is running.

See though heres the problem. I think Crompton has been failed by his coaches so far. Yes he's arrogant, egotistical, and pretty much a knucklehead....but he does have some athletic skills. So far he hasn't benefitted from the position coaching Ainge had, if he had...hed've been better. All things considered I see Stephens starting next fall in a pro style offense.

I don't see CLK making him the starter when you take into consideration all the work needed in him for just 1 season. I would think it is between Stephens and Coleman and JC will probably come in the last game of the season as a tribute for him being a senior.

I also think Stephen's fire under his ass attitude will click with this staff a little better than Crompton's "All is Well" mantra.

I will agree with you on that for sure. I think attitude wise Stephens has the best. I just didn't see enough of Coleman to judge his attitude. Crompton's attitude was pretty poor if you ask me. There were multiple times this season he just shrugged off CPF when he was trying to talk to him. But then again, that could always come back to CPF not instilling any discipline in these kids. CLK has already demonstrated that discipline is coming back to The Hill.

:good!:

Stephens has a cannon for an arm. An accurate cannon at that. The only thing Stephens has been missing, is some solid coaching.

He will be the starter.

You could say that about a lot of Tennessee Vols over the past 10 years, minus the years Cuttcliffe was here. I wasn't always down with his play calling, but he proved his worth with Ainge.

LOL, your vision must have been extremely bad from the corner of the end zone!!! CROMPTON SUCKS!!! Coleman will be the starter, possibly Stephens. My money is on Coleman.

LOL, ok, Kiffin will let Crompton throw it out of bounds and at the receivers feet.....NOT!!!
