What’s going on Ladyvol Nation! Pretty new to this forum and been watching the girls softball team for the last 7 years. What’s everyone’s opinion/predictions on The Lady Vols chances of hosting a Super Regional this year? Seems to me finishing sec play by winning the Bama series and sweeping Missouri would all but assure a top 8 seed. What’s Ya’ll thoughts?

Winning the Bama series and then the Missouri series should do it. May need to win a game or so in the SEC tourney.

Need to win four of the last six, regardless of how that happens. Can’t get swept by Alabama, need to win the series at Missouri.

I fear it is gonna be tough. Losing to Duke I think really hurt. As others above are saying gotta win the Bama AND Mo. series.. Then do well in the SEC tourney. All said, better pick up the hitting with runners on base.

Well, a couple of things. The team began the season with an ace pitcher who was practically unhittable but then she injured her shoulder and has been streaky ever since. Our hitting started out super strong, but then we… well … went into a super slump. We also started making some fielding mistakes.

Ups and downs all around. We’ve only lost 6 or 7 games, but it somehow feels like more. I’m sure not having Pickens at 100% weighs heavily on the minds of the whole team whether they’d admit it or not, and that can certainly affect confidence, and THAT obviously affects hitting and fielding. I think the team lost its confidence when Karlyn went down.

Could probably get swept by Mizzou and Bama, and possibly lose Pickens for us to drop out of being a Regional Host. Chances of hosting a Super Regional are likely pretty slim unless we win 5 of last 6 and go deep in SEC Tournament. Even then you'd need some good teams to lose some games, as well.

UT as of today's is 7th in the RPI. Sweeping Missouri and beating Radford is must for UT to host a Supers. Alabama is 3rd in the RPI so even beating them once would go along way. Beating them twice would be huge. Will find out shortly this weekend. Pickens should have plenty of rest, assuming she doesnt pitch against Radford.

Actually, in my view, things started going south when Karlyn came back. Not saying it's on her, but when she was out, we were still winning. I feel like the main issue is what it has been throughout the years - we just are not able to sustain any offensive punch. Early on, the girls were showing so much confidence at the plate, even against outstanding pitching, but it started fizzling out when conference play started. Maybe if we can get Knight back, she can give us a spark. Otherwise, it's looking like a quick exit from postseason.

We all knew when the season started LV's would go as far as Pickens could take them. Even with the other pitchers doing well nothing has changed. Pickens is still the driver. Pitchers of her caliber don't come around often and Karen should use her as much as safely possible.
Even with her back to full effectiveness, we have to get something going offensively to have a chance. It's almost impossible to hold the top teams to less than 2 runs; they've just got too many power hitters. As great as Karlyn is, she'll likely give up one or two long balls per game. Softball has changed a lot since the days of Monica Abbott.
