Sobering ESPN article about CBJ and family

Butch haters can clown on him and say the money cures all ills and etc., but it doesn't. Does it help?..... of course..... money doesn't suck.

What if the youngest was your son and everyone in Knoxville was saying you suck and should be fired? Would your salary make it all better?

How about the high school son? Having your own teammates saying your dad should be fired sure would make you feel good ...

Tho I think fans are harsh and family should be left out of it, Jones can stop the pain at any moment. Go to the AD and negotiate a discounted buyout. I gave up $ to have a less stressful career. He can too.

No. Stop. That's far too logical and sensible. Crazy talk. Quit it now.

Most people who lose their jobs because of performance aren't paid millions to go away, so while I have sympathy for his family, it's hard to have sympathy for Butch.

You guys and your tough talk..... y'all probably wet your pants when your wife or mother snaps at you.... or freak out with anxiety before your annual review at work

Lots of hate towards Jones right now, regardless, he's a human that makes mistakes. I want jones gone as much as anyone but this is a good article that reminds us how this whole situation is not just him but his family.

I agree we could all be a little more civil about this but considering he makes 4mil a year it’s hard for me to feel sorry for his wife while she’s sitting in her private booth. My family would be sh!@ting in high cotton if I made 5% of what he does. It comes with the territory, high risk/high reward job. He knew it coming in to it.

Yes, it sucks for his family, but do you honestly believe Butch had no inkling of the scrutiny a high expectation job would bring? Fans need to leave the family alone, but Butch also knew what he was getting his family into. Not excusing fan behavior that actually attacks the family, but because of Butch's choices, his family needs to have thicker skin when it comes to just hearing about Butch being fired. If he was doing a better job, the topic wouldn't even be out there. Family or no, people get fired for being bad at their job all the time. Why aren't we talking about those families and empathizing with them? And I'm fairly certain they're not getting paid a substantial buy out when they get fired.

I almost feel sorry for Butch's family, then I remember he's taking over 4 million a year from UT and not really giving much back to the Vols save recruiting. It's painfully obvious that Butch Jones could not win at UT with consecutive top 10 recruiting classes.....sad indeed

It’s nice how ESPN comes out high and mighty through this. They are our new moral compass. I seem to remember a 5 minute bashing of CBJ press conference on College Game Day this past Saturday. ESPN and the SEC Network have been leading the charge via their “let’ all laugh at the buffoon coaching Tennessee” segments.

It's hard on the family I'm sure but every time someone is fired from any job it is hard in the family and they usually go through financial hardship as a result.

On a different note when the article spoke about her demeanor and true context clues from her quotes does anyone else think maybe Butch had been told prior to this game they had to win or at least keep it close to keep his job? Maybe it's reading too much into it but it sounded that way to me.

I can't believe this needs to be explained to you, but the MAJOR difference is when other people get fired, it is NOT played out in the media with 100's of thousands of fans demanding you be fired and scrutinizing everything that transpired. Aside from a few close friends and family, the people you are referring to go about their business of finding a new job quietly.

The situation being discussed is not the financial hardship that comes with being fired as that doesn't apply in this situation like a normal person would. The situation is the toll it takes on the family with all of the publicity and negativity.

Why do I just not care. Go sell cars if you want to be left alone.

For 4 million bucks I would let someone publically punch me in the face every time we lost a game. Hell I might hire a guy that would do it to walk around with me in order to remind me of what's coming if we lose.

For that same 4 million would you let your kid be harassed at school?

I am absolutely embarrassed for you class envy warriors. The amount of money one does or does not have shouldn't dictate how we treat them.

If it was left to discussing CBJ's job performance it would be one thing. But to incessantly spew unfounded crap about the man is entirely another... re the alpha male thread last week.

I don't know if that's sobering... sounds about like what I would expect.

Anyone who needs to be reminded not to take it personally is a little off kilter anyway. First of all, it's a game. Second, it's about his performance as a professional, not about him personally.

Not about him personally?

Have you read VN the last few weeks? Seriously, have you?

This is, or should be, a family frendly site. Kids are curious too, so i wouldnt put it past them to be reading comments here.

The site is family friendly...but you shouldn't expect everyone here to be gloating over Butch's performance. As I read the article his wife and child both mentioned awful plays as they happened....why wouldn't we do the same? This is a fan site, not a Butch Jones love fest!!! Look at the articles in the KNS, SEC country and others. All of them say Butch is in over his head!

Let's censor the entire internet and while we are at it, water cooler discussions. Also, make it verboten we can't have opinions about Tennessee football that are contrary to what the official Butch Jones position is.

Attacking his family is pathetic and I would hope that anyone that does that would be exposed and shamed publicly. But Butch and his record are fair game. He also didn't help himself by giving that moronic press conference last weekend and blaming the media for all of his ills.

What else would you think happened? You think Low just knocked on the door of their skybox and asked if he could interview the family?

I think Butch purposefully playing up his own family's pain to evoke sympathy is weak, shows lack of character, is the opposite of leadership and being a man. That's my point. And it doesn't surprise me a bit. Thanks for pushing me to spell it out.
