You're right. It's not personal. That's the point. People make it personal when they insult him outside the lines of football. If you think he doesn't want it to work out, you haven't been paying attention.

It should never be personal unless someone just doesn't try and they're being paid that money. Butch continues to work hard.

All of this is why Currie should go ahead and cut Butch loose. Let them be able to move on and find closure.

These by outs are ridiculous, ADs around the country need to get together and establish a reasonable by out standard.The AD at arky should be fired for the outrageous deal he signed with beilema......$15M BO...C'mon Man !
Time to repack those golden parachutes.

Please...No one wants to hurt the guy or his family. Dude makes 11 grand a day and stands to make 6- 10 mil IF he is let go. This is comical! :)

1. Anyone who harasses the Butch or the family personally is an ass.
2. This is another reason why the firing should happen sooner rather than later. It’s not going to get better from here on.

Agree I jus hope there ain't no rogues fans that would do that to his family even though he sucks as a coach and has a huge buyout it doesn't make it right...

Hard to feel bad for the family with a salary at least double per year than most of the fans will make in a lifetime, mention of the "Jones suite" and more than $9 million buyout headed their way!!!

We all wish the circumstances were better and Butch was making the money for producing an SEC contender team. Since that isn't the case, take the money and be happy. Butch did what he could...his skin isn't tough enough for the SEC and he is in over his head.

Yeah....you are right. We should be happy going to Music City Bowl each year, barely beating an 0-4 UMASS team, then not even scoring a FIELD GOAL against UGA. Yep, all is good in Vol Land....go Vols.....beat Southern Miss. :loco:

First of all, that would be collusion, and they'd likely get sued over it.

Buyouts are part of the negotiated contract. It's no different than the salary or other terms. ADs compete for coaches, and with that comes terms that are favorable to coaches. An AD can play hardball all they want, but in the end, they have to offer the deal that gets the coach they want, or go looking for another coach.

This was a good article about what goes on with the family of a big time football coach, especially regarding the knowledge that the spouse has about the hotness of the seat that her husband is sitting upon.

Very few people would ever be rude or nasty to the family of a coach who is trying to do the best job that they can to win games. I think that Barbara understands that it is going badly especially when you take into account the disappointment that was last year's season. We all know that there was zero reason that the SEC East should have not been won by UT last year.....even with all of the injuries on defense.

I think that the hangover of that disappointment is the giant albatross that hangs around Coach Jones neck. Of course, the injuries have mounted again this year and that has not helped.

The thing that drives me nuts is how conservative Jones seems to coach when the game is on the line. Hiring Larry Scott has been a disaster. Not having a QB who can make some plays with his feet is a must when you are out manned as is the case this season. Dormandy cannot do this and he does not have receivers that can help him overcome his deficiencies. The OL needs the crap kicked out of them for how they under perform, constantly. They should still be running around the field for how they played against UMass.

UT should be defending SEC East champs. They should be riding a 3 game win streak against Florida. Maybe if they had won last year, Coach Jones would not have gone off on the ridiculous the diatribe about "Champions of Life". It is like he thinks that everybody is just stupid down here.

The loss last year to Carolina after a bye week says all that needs to said about Coach Jones ability to prepare a team. And to follow that up by losing to Vandy in the fashion that they did. Since those 2 losses the handwriting has been on the wall for this Coach.

If he were a good coach, UT would come out and crush Carolina at home. It will not happen. I expect a loss to Carolina. I do not care for Muschamp but he is a better coach than Jones. The results speak for themselves. UT should have a better football coach than Muschamp.

This is off subject. I would do some serious looking at the Clemson model that Coach Sweeny has in place. Brent Venables is a hell of a coach and Clemson has 2 co-offensive coordinators. Just sayin'.
