So, who quit?!

That’s right!!! We ain’t here to play school!!!!!

Hope this statement is tongue in cheek. If so then  otherwise you and those that think like you need to start minor league football leagues.
Think I just saw and heard this being discussed for after high school basketball.

Ever had a coach or boss you didnt want to work for. You know, a real douche bag? Did it affect your performance? Ever had a coach or boss you loved to work for? Performance?

Part of a coaches job is to inspire and motivate players.

I don't think it's coaches job to motivate me. If he does his JOB (you know, the one he gets paid millions for) with the players then we'll know, and we'll come out and support the team. So far, he's said the team doesn't took inspired or motivated. Yet, I'm supposed to be? He's closed practice, allowed little access, took away fan meet and greet. And, when he has spoken it's been grumbling about effort. Who's doing good coach? "No one.". What's impressed you? "Nothing."

And then pops his head above ground 4 days before the spring game and says we need fans to come? Huh?? Then questions fans when they don't show. What?
And, im a snowflake and lose my fan card if I call bull **** on that?

Well, Fu#k you. He's dam lucky that so many people showed up considering the facts.

Dammed if I'm gonna applaud a bammer for this. I can't believe Vol fans.
Fwiw, I hope he motivates players. I hope he inspires players. But, I have no idea if he does. Based on the O&W game, the defense (his specialty) looked like an unmotivated **** show.

As long as coaches get paid millions, I'm going to place that on them, rather than applaud them for running off players. I'd be more convinced of his ability if he keeps players and turns them around, more so than running them off.

Agree!

Those who quit/lacked effort know who they are and the team does too. No need to put anybody's name on here. The process will take care of this. Only the strong survive.

While I think ol' Roustie has carried this a smidgen too far, he does raise a good point. When Butch closed practices or didn't allow press access to much of anything, he was roasted by VN. CJP does some of the same things and many are ok with it. I recognize we all want to give the new coach a honeymoon (admit it or not, we did it with Dooley and Butch), coaches don't "have" to give us what we want. They handle things as they see fit and we either like it or we don't.

Pruitt needs to look in the mirror if players don’t want to play for him instead of blaming everyone around him (including the fans)for his lake of progress thus far.

Bull-Pruitt's approach is the right one to initiate the change in attitude to develop the Vols into an elite program. Who cares if he steps on toes or hurts players/fans feelings in the process.

I insulted YOU?? You told me to F off. Lol. I didn’t even return the favor. Have a good one. Go Vols.

Apologize for any aspersions. Although I quoted your post, I was speaking towards Pruitt and the general notion that I have to accept Pruitt's comments and have no right to challenge what was said, or I'm not a real fan. To anyone that tells me that, yes, **** off.

He can't do things the way he's done them and expect record crowds. Not based on where things are right now. If he doesn't want to do any PR, that's his prerogative. Shut up, coach, and do your thing. It doesn't matter to me. However, when you do a 180 and you impugn the fanbase, that's bull****. I've laid out the facts. The defensive results on Saturday don't tell show me improvement or buy in. Telling me players quit, means they haven't bought into you. So, that could be the players or it could be the coaches. Time will tell which one. Is my love for UT conditional? No. Is my investment conditional, yes.

I had a relative play the last five years. They didn't deserve the chaos over there. Players got jerked around. It took its toll. Yes, players have a responsibility. So do the coaches.

ok.. let's take a look at some of the best coaches in college football..
Saban, Spurrier, Meyer to name a few...
What do they all have in common...
Hard nosed and Hard ass..they are no nonsense coaches who put up with nothing..
The same can be said for the best NFL coaches also...
Feels so good to have a coach who says it like it is...

Yea, your going to be told those guys have won National Championships and have earned the right to be hard nosed.

They will be correct too.

I'll just add, Pruitt made a simple little comment. No big deal. This doesn't register as being "hard-nosed"

I'm ok with easing up on a hit... why take a guy out with an injury?

But if they just quit, no effort to close on a play, then yeah those guys need to rethink why they are even out there. JP might be over reacting a bit.

Now... I did see some video tape of the fans... way too many were talking on cell phones, taking selfies, and eating hot dogs. No fights observed, a lot of folks just sitting.

I wasn't talking on the phone. I was sending selfies. The twins were fighting the while trip except when they had cotton candy and snow cones. They were insulted by the hot dogs. They wanted more candy.

I live in Atlanta but was actually considering making the trip for the spring game. I decided not to go because sadly after last season, I have become a bit melancholy toward football and made other plans.

Pruitt was speaking to me. Do I blame him? Nope. Not at all.

It is honestly refreshing to be called out. For once we have a coach that expects the best and holds people accountable. That is exactly what we need. Fans like myself included. Bravo coach

Western KY here. Worked on my new boat "Go Vol Gal" on Saturday. He was calling the fans out to make it look like he wasn't just getting on the players. He wants an all in attitude in Knoxville to include fans, players, sponsors, etc.

Here's my thing about the spring game that a lot of people, including Pruitt, are missing...it's a spring game. I don't live near UT anymore, but if i did I wouldn't have gone. I would've been at Cool Beans with my friends having drinks. If we we came of a SEC championship last season I'd be having a beer at the bean. Idk why this spring game is suddenly taken so seriously.

yeah it beats the crap out of a pond of progress or a creek of progress...I mean we all want an ocean of progress but you know one tributary at a time! :)

Must be a summer camp where Lyle taught leadership reps in the offseason.

You're right. Ultimately what happens on Fall Saturdays is all that matters.
But, if it takes all, as he said, then you have to foster good will as well. He's never coached at a place with these challenges.
Insulting me doesn't change that.

And therein lies your problem.

It is a requirement to changing of the Guard, to change the underlying psychology and emotional issues this team has. CJP is making the very distinct point that everything is serious bizness now. Fan attendance (involvement), how we practice, who we recruit, finding 100% effort 100% of the time.

'Drastic' measures are required to make a silk purse from Smokey's ear.

You gotta love pruitt man. Give the man time on his Defense he is running a tough defense and it takes time to install it especially bringing in the right personal. Give it time bud. Enjoy the process. I see at least 8 wins this year.

You guys have got to be joking, ........ Jeremy “insulted” you? Look, I’m not going to make jabs about your feelings, but this is SEC football. It’s not about how the HFC markets a spring game (or doesn’t).
I am a long time season ticket holder, and was one of the folks he was addressing (I didn’t have to work, and could have attended), and I actually LOVE that Jeremy is not satisfied with anything. Perhaps he will spew more disgust in the weeks ahead (I am sure there will be plenty of it come fall, so hold on).
This guy means business people, and not business as usual. Like much of life, time will tell.
