I've read two accounts, which is the most reliable? (Hope this hasn't been discussed. I don't have time to go through every thread, although I haven't seen anything like it..)
Anyway, Here's the point of Basilio's post:
I've had very little faith in Dooley to be that guy because I know what goes on behind the scenes. And believe me, it's not pretty. Here's the deal with this guy. He's not a winner. And he's not a leader. His kids don't respond to him in the moment. He can't catch a break. I hate it for him because it's on our dime. But again, this isn't personal. This is fact. Dooley's just about OK for this job. But you know what, UT fans need somebody who's perfect for the job
'You say, 'where are you going to get the money to pay him off?' I know for a fact that there are at least 2 boosters (that I personally know of) who have offered to pay Dooley's buyout in full to make this error era of Tennessee football go away.
And I do think eventually (as silly as it sounds) that the first place Tennessee goes is to Jon Gruden. I believe UT is getting ready to, coaching wise, get into the big time in college football. This next guy (no offense to Dooley, but there's going to be a next guy) has to be a fan energizing hire. Tennessee can't settle going forward."'
Now, here is what Wes Rucker says according to fan who listens to the radio:
the powers that be at UT will accept 7-5 this year for Dooley because of the buyout situation, but if he loses to Vandy or UK he is done.
I also have read a while back that Rucker believes that getting Gruden is unrealistic.
So which is it? Is Basilio right about the guys not responding to him, cause I read there was a team meeting and they were upset about the possibility of losing their coach.. Is Gruden a possibility? Do we stay the course if we beat Vandy/Kentucky/Troy and Missouri?
