So who is more reliable? Basilio or Wes Rucker?

Basilio says that he knows that there have been two boosters, who have offered (On his site-- TonyBasilio.com) but other than that, I've not heard anything else on that.

and he also said Marlon Walls was going to jail for stomping a cops head on the pavement. Said police knew it was him and were filing charges. Then...

crickets forever more

The truth is, people want to believe Basilio in this instance. However, it doesn't change the fact that has always been derided as a goat on this board because almost everything he says is bull****.

Rucker on the other hand only reports what he knows to be accurate. I challenge any one of you to find something that he has reported on that has been wrong.

This isn't even close. When as Rucker ever claimed anything to the effect of Basillio re: coaches? He's the clown that claimed Lovie Smith was coming here. Also said Mushamp too.

You should have him give you the backstory on those two things. It's pretty enlightening.

According to Basilio, Lovie Smith's plane is still waiting to land.

Basilio's rumor mongering is awful, and he is part of the problem. Rucker was cool (he would answer your questions on Twitter) until he went to 247. Now he just cares about getting the subscriptions. So for old time sake I would say Rucker, but they both are no use to me now.

Both have inflated egos and are more wrong then right. However, Rucker was the first one to verify Sal's hiring I do believe. I don't remember Basilio ever having any first release type of information that actually came true.

Basilio never said L. Smith was coming here. He said he was talked to. People put words in that guys mouth all the time because he is willing to put himself out there. He is the guy who said it was going to be Kiffin when other media members said he wasn't in the running. Basilio in funny as hell and talented. Ever hear him call a high school game? Kesling should be so lucky!

I've read two accounts, which is the most reliable? (Hope this hasn't been discussed. I don't have time to go through every thread, although I haven't seen anything like it..)

Anyway, Here's the point of Basilio's post:

I've had very little faith in Dooley to be that guy because I know what goes on behind the scenes. And believe me, it's not pretty. Here's the deal with this guy. He's not a winner. And he's not a leader. His kids don't respond to him in the moment. He can't catch a break. I hate it for him because it's on our dime. But again, this isn't personal. This is fact. Dooley's just about OK for this job. But you know what, UT fans need somebody who's perfect for the job

'You say, 'where are you going to get the money to pay him off?' I know for a fact that there are at least 2 boosters (that I personally know of) who have offered to pay Dooley's buyout in full to make this error era of Tennessee football go away.

And I do think eventually (as silly as it sounds) that the first place Tennessee goes is to Jon Gruden. I believe UT is getting ready to, coaching wise, get into the big time in college football. This next guy (no offense to Dooley, but there's going to be a next guy) has to be a fan energizing hire. Tennessee can't settle going forward."'

Now, here is what Wes Rucker says according to fan who listens to the radio:

the powers that be at UT will accept 7-5 this year for Dooley because of the buyout situation, but if he loses to Vandy or UK he is done.

I also have read a while back that Rucker believes that getting Gruden is unrealistic.

So which is it? Is Basilio right about the guys not responding to him, cause I read there was a team meeting and they were upset about the possibility of losing their coach.. Is Gruden a possibility? Do we stay the course if we beat Vandy/Kentucky/Troy and Missouri?
I have little faith in either.

Rucker is who I would listen to if you want accurate reports period. He never posts anything unless he either hears it personally or has multiple sources.

As far as Hart firing Dooley, my guess is that we will know something after the USCe game like we did with Fulmer.

If Alabama has 35,000+ fans in the stands and blows us out, then we go to USCe and play pathetically against them also, Hart will be forced into letting Dooley go.

Gruden was a pipe dream before (but not necessarily this time around). Why?
1) Hamilton was the AD
2) Hamilton was the AD
3) Hamilton was still....the AD!

Seriously though:
1) Hamilton was the AD
A) Hamilton was looking for a coach that wouldn't "break the bank"...so he called Budget Rental and reserved Dooley for the next 6 years (they didn't have Gruden in their list of choices). No Resume check necessary at Budget Rental. Just call and make the reservation.

2) Hamilton was the AD
A) Hamilton thought to himself (after everyone heaping accolades on him for hiring Bruce Pearl) that he could easily find another diamond in the rough...and most importantly...on the cheap.

3) Hamilton was the AD
A) Hamilton was so cheap that he tried to convince candidates to keep a good portion of the existing staff, so we wouldn't be on the hook for them.

4) Hamilton was the AD
A) With Hamilton keeping Fulmer an extra year or two beyond what he should have (still cheap by SEC standards, even then...at 2.5mill/yr)...the talent had been so depleted that it made the rebuilding job look rather unsightly.

To Dooley's credit, he has done a relatively good job recruiting, and thus Gruden would have enough talent to hit the ground running...especially with Tyler Bray coming back for a senior season and a wealth of huge WR's to throw to (we have committed or lead with 3 top WR's which are 6'4" or taller!). We are also a frontrunner for a stellar 5* RB in Derrick Green.

Gruden's window to return to coaching is almost closed. Very hard to get back in after 5+ yrs. Even teams that once pursued you lose interest and presume you'd be too rusty/far removed to be effective as a coach again. This would be Gruden's last chance, even for this job, if it became available once more.

I just find it interesting that Rucker and Swain have said different things the last couple of days...

That's because Rucker is a reporter an he attends games practices and anything else related to sports... Swain is there to give his opinions and his football knowledge from playing at Tennessee. He never attends anything outside of some home games... That's not his job.. That's ruckers job. S they will have disagreements which I think makes it more enjoyable.. Plus they are down to earth and actually have fun talking about UT sports and sports in general.

My point...Rucker is wrong about Dooley even possibly being back at 7-5.

For the record, and its already been said but he Rucker said it again today on 104.5, that finances are a concern and seems to believe that CDD is back at 7-5. Said he could be wrong but he is painting this as what he thinks we'll happen.

So we'll see.

In contrast, they also mentioned that Doug Matthews said that money is not a problem.
