How many years will you be able to fill Neyland every game if we become an annual 7-5 or 8-4 team? At least Richt won a few SEC championships while at UGA his ten years down there before they canned him.

Texas may be an example of that but see if you can convince Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State & Texas A&M. Tried and failed would be Oregon, USC, Miami. Spending the most guarantees nothing but I guarantee the eventual winner is in that top spending category.

We’re currently ranked 8th in the country in recruiting. If you can put top 10 classes together year in and year out and do solid in the portal with addressing needs a good coach and staff can win here. Tennessee has the resources to do this with a great staff. Our recruiting budget is one of if not the biggest in the country. Heupel needs a staff upgrade in some areas, we are young and this incoming class as is will be his best to date. But Heupel has to think big picture and demand excellence from his assistants. On field performance and coaching evaluations need to be look at and addressed. Special teams is a no doubt problem. We need a coaching upgrade there big time. Being able to coach up players is vital. I question whether Martinez can do that consistently. He has been here along time and I don’t see great technique being taught consistently. GBO

Josh is a good coach and I’m still happy to have him, but if he doesn’t make some changes to his support staff this offseason it will be the beginning of the end for him. Oklahoma brought the blitz all night, dropped their DBs, and left the middle of the field open. Halzle never schemed to take advantage of that.

Oklahoma adjusted at half to design more qb runs to open up their passing game and build Mateer’s confidence. Banks never adjusted to stopping that. Never put a spy on Mateer. The guy has a broken thumb. He’s not going to throw it over 15 yards, at least not accurately. You can go to man and put a spy on him. It’s frustrating…

That what I am saying. But not necessarily the top spender, which is what I was responding too. Your quote was whoever spends the most will win the championship. Like you was saying top dollar wins every time despite that theory being proven wrong many times in history. Yes you have to. Yes you have to be competitive in money. But you can out spend and fall short, they are many other factors than just money. Coaches coaching and players performing for one thing out of many. There are many other important components that go along with being a championship team. GBO

In all seriousness, UT needs a masterful coach with an astonishingly over the top Offensive Mind. Grudes was part of the coaching team here in 1985. His wife Cindy is a UT grad and his wife was a Cheerleader for UT. They live now in Vegas - so like, who the frick doesn't want to get the hell out of Vegas? He of course wants to coach again. His name is bigger than all the coaches together vying for the FL or LSU jobs.

I have supported Josh since his arrival but am convinced he cannot take us to the promised land. He had TWO MAJOR NATIONAL MEDIA SPOTLIGHTS on him this year with the Georgia and OK games, and came up short both times. Knoxville is not the problem. The Fans are not the problem. The players are not the problem.

Danny White, we have danced around this issue of Jon Gruden taking over the reigns for decades now. I would give money to UT again if we did something this bold and audacious, and I really do not think I am the only one who would support this change.

It is time to think far outside the window if we are going to seriously ever compete for another Natty in football. The NIL and portal changes have proven that parity is real in our league now, so we need a true superman at the top and roaming the sidelines on Saturdays in Knoxville.

The timing is PERFECT, cuz I for one don't ever want to face Grudes coaching against us in Neyland.

Ths is the problem. The Tennessee job is EASILY as attractive as those. The "recruting base" excuse no longer holds water with NIL. BTW... TN had a couple 5 star QB's that are doing well at their destinations. Tell me ONE resource that those teams have that UT doesnt. This is a loser attitude ghat has kept this program down for years.

I agree, but the point is OUR HOPES for an elite team in 2025 were always dependent on Nico evolving into the Top 5 elite type QB his recruiting ranking said he was.

NIL and portal help Tennessee offset the mediocre in-state recruiting base. Oklahoma and Vandy brought in transfer quarterbacks along with their position coaches and were an immediate success. This has equalized talent for sure but makes player evaluation imperative.

Increasing roster size will also help SEC schools. In the old days NCAA smaller schools set up the ridiculous scholarship limits to spread talent around which it did. Now Tennessee and other SEC programs can cherry pick talent from smaller schools and build powerhouse rosters. The competition is insane and winning 7/8 games with a 9 game SEC schedule will not be seen as that bad in the future.

Josh Heupel is one of the best coaches in FBS and Danny White, Randy Boyd and people who matter know that and understand the perils of panic coaching firings and the potential to destroy a program with a bad hire or series of hires as the Vols experienced.

No excuses, but you can't fire coaches every loss. INT's and injuries did us in this game. OU was too good of a defensive team for us to make that many mistakes.

Realistic coaching change thoughts - NONE. Heuple will not be fired nor should he. Asst coaching changes should give serious thought to.
With all the coaching vacancies' out there right now this is not the time to be looking.

I would not be surprised if Auburn cans Freeze this week. If so, you will have LSU, UF, Auburn open. Add in Arkansas and possibly UK, along with Va Tech. Will Dabo be out as well? Seems like he is begging to be fired.

Do you seriously think that we could hire someone better than JH with all the openings? If so, who?

Are we more attractive than LSU, UF and Auburn currently? All three have won nattys and SEC championships since we last did so some 27 years ago.

To my knowledge, there is not a Phil Fulmer or Johnny Majors waiting in the wings to come home.

I agree that we don’t want to fire JH. He has done a tremendous job turning the program around. However, every great leader needs to know their strengths and weaknesses and surround themselves accordingly. JH needs someone who is a details oriented discipline enforcer. He needs a Cutcliff to complement the areas where he isn’t strong.

Banks SUCKS man he needs to go first Love Garner and coach Chop. I’m open to all other positions on defense. Martinez is close to retirement let him and by all means encourage with all you have for Banks to find something else Would Love DJ Durkin, Blake Baker, or Knowles. Try for any of them
