This. If Tennessee is capable of a 16-2 run to open the game, then Zona is capable of the same at any other point. It's why you never get comfortable with a lead and take your foot off the gas, especially early.
Drawing fouls was certainly a strategy which is why Fulkerson should be credited with a triple double lolI think it would be impossible to maintain the pace they had for the first say 15 minutes. What it did however, was cause a better (I think) team to work extra hard and foul lots to get back in the game. I guess what I am saying is the early investment payed lots of interest as Az. burned much of it's reserve trying to recover.
Yeah, like January 16th when we beat Vandy by 20, then got blown out at Florida. All down hill from there. It seems to me that Barnes is developing a tendency to run the offense with primarily two options: drive it and attempt layup or kick it out and try a 3. And these last two teams have been streaky shooting and many might say less than good outside shots. Both of the last two teams tend to go thru big stretches of time with no buckets. What seems strange to me is to not have a third option......why not have a mid-range jump shot game for when we cannot get to the rim because of their bigs and aren't hitting the 3? I'd like to hear anyones thoughts on why this is not tried much. Not just with us, but many programs have seemed to abandon the "middle game". I understand the analytics of why the 3 is so powerful, but when it won't fall, and you can't overpower in the paint, you need another choice.I just hope this team continues to get better as the year goes on.Last year we peaked to early.
Games against top teams rarely go without runs or lead changes. Sometimes big runs, actually what is rare is to see a team actually keep the lead the entire game. Your complaint really doesn’t make much sense. We jumped on them and they never got the freakin lead. Teams make runs in basketball, you act like coming back from being down in double digits has never been done. It actually highlights our ability to run the lead back out every time Arizona made a run, which was several times including the first half. That is what good teams like Arizona do, but our ability to take it right back out to double digits is the most impressive thing. We simply outplayed them and responded to every run. GBO!!!!
Analytics places a low percentage on the mid-range game. Shooting high numbers of 3’s or taking it to the rim is the game nowadays.Yeah, like January 16th when we beat Vandy by 20, then got blown out at Florida. All down hill from there. We actually had one of the higher percentage of midrange shots in the country last year. If our guys can’t shoot well from 3, they usually aren’t making midrange either (see Chandler). Exception would be our bigs; I think Nkamhoua and Fulk could maybe take a few more midrange shots if they were wide open.Yeah, like January 16th when we beat Vandy by 20, then got blown out at Florida. I thought the two freshman started thinking about the draft and quit playing good team ball. This team has a chance to go far.Fulky and James will lead the way and the talented freshman will follow. This team could make a deep run if they keep improving.Yeah, like January 16th when we beat Vandy by 20, then got blown out at Florida.
