Obviously, there are some players that could stay or go...

But for sure, who is gone after this year? Wondering what next year's team is going to look like

Went through and posted some players we are gonna lose. Based them on Huge Loss - Meh. Every one of these guys are either starting or huge contributors on the field. We will be losing ALOT of experience. Not sure if all these players are leaving but most will.

Cooper Mays - Huge Loss
Jaylen McCollough - Meh
Jevonte Spraggins - Huge Loss
Donieko Slaughter - Loss
Gabe Jeudy-Lally - Meh
Jabari Small - Loss
Dee Williams - Big Loss
Warren Burrell - Depth loss
Kamal Hadden - Loss
Aaron Beasley - Big Loss
Joe Milton - Meh
Brandon Turnage - Meh
Tyler Baron - HUGE LOSS
Ramel Keyton - Loss
Elija Simmons - Depth Loss
Tamarion McDonald - Big Loss
Wesley Walker - Depth Loss
Omari Thomas - He is a senior, he may leave for the draft but i think he has 1 more year of Eligibility. Not sure on that though.
John Cambell -Huge Loss

Tennessee has approximately 15-20 seniors who could use a COVID year and return for another season and that obviously could dramatically change the outlook of this team, especially considering how many guys are eligible to return in the line of scrimmage.

The list:

John Campbell
Cooper Mays
Javontez Spraggins
Gerald Mincey
Dayne Davis
Jackson Lampley
Jabari Small
Bru McCoy
Tyler Baron
Omari Thomas
Elijah Simmons
Omar Norman Lott
Bryson Eason
Keenan Pili
Tamarion McDonald
Warren Burrell
Brandon Turnage
Doneiko Slaughter
Wesley Walker
Gabe Jeudy-Lally

The timing of the decision making process for that group will be really interesting because most want to get their draft grade first, which normally comes back around national signing day in December. That’s also right in the middle of the portal window as well. So the numbers thing combined with the timing is interesting for sure.

Many of you have asked about Keenan Pili and whether or not he would come back. He’s definitely considering it. He obviously is in a different place at his age and being married. It’s not just a decision for Pili but for his wife also. So don’t look for a quick decision there.

Bru McCoy has gotten all of his staples out of his leg. McCoy is rehabbing 2-3 hours a day following ankle surgery. McCoy isn’t walking or putting weight on the ankle at this point, so his rehab timeline is going to be interesting to see as his NFL draft decision will be looming in January.

The date for declaring this year is January 15th.

Baron will get drafted, maybe Omari Thomas and Norman-Lott too. Cooper might be a late rounder but he's currently not really high on anyone's draft board. Sprag and Campbell fall into that category too. Late rounders at best. I think everyone but Baron could come back and improve their draft status with a really good offseason and Super Senior season.

I honestly think everyone else will come back unless they are just tired of football or politely asked to leave.

Lose a lot of both lines. Mostly next year will depend on how Nico plays and how quickly he can improve. Id predict 8-4 as it stands right now for next year’s schedule. Thats assuming most of those guys leave. If more stay, then that would help.

I hope not. These DBs need to go. Better talent coming up.

I think both Omari Thomas and Norman-Lott will enter the draft but I would love to see one or both return. We need a couple of the OL guys and a couple of the DL guys to return.

I have been to the major draft projection sites. There are only three Vols that look to be realistically drafted. I can easily see more than half of this list returning to increase their chances of success in the NFL.

EDIT: Here is a link that shows the Vols and draft ranking. Remember, there were only 259 picks in the 2023 NFL draft. Undrafted free agents sometimes do well, but you have much greater odds if drafted.

I think I read that there are 31 Freshmen/RS freshman on the team now, with 22 coming in, maybe a few more. That only leaves 30 open spots factoring in the 2 less scholarships per year. There will definitely be a numbers crunch there, so I assume there will be some guys asked to leave.

I have been to the major draft projection sites. Other Than Joe Milton and Tyler Baron, I cannot find any of the Vol players that are projected to be drafted. I find that nuts, but that is the wat it currently is. I can easily see more than half of this list returning to increase their chances of success in the NFL.
Same. It sounds like most of them won't have much choice if they want to keep playing.

How many have NFL talent? In order I’d say:

Thomas
Pili
Spraggins
McCoy
Baron
Mays

Don’t think anyone else gets drafted even if they return

The level of improvement or drop off in performance would point to our staff's ability to develop players.

7 wins is about right unless we kill it in the portal.
And this place will be discussing short lists with that record or worse. 2022 was the worst thing that could have happened to Heupel. He needed the order of the last two seasons switched so next year could be the obvious rebuild. At 7-5 or 6-6 it’s going to look like 2022 was a fluke with cornbreads leftovers.

He's on the list. For some reason Hubbs and AP think he could potentially go pro, but Im not sure he has enough time to recover before the combine and I'm not sure he has enough good film to warrant being drafted without a really good combine

People talk about who can stay, but you have to also consider the 83 person scholarship limits and the recruits we want. We’re gonna have to get REALLY creative to make the numbers work

These players DO NOT have any eligibility left: (15)

Aaron Beasley
Charles Campbell
John Campbell
McCallan Castles
Jeremiah Crawford
Kurott Garland
Kamal Hadden
Roman Harrison
Ramel Keyton
Ollie Lane
Jaylen McCullough
Joe Milton
Keenan Pili (If he doesn't play anymore he can consider appealing for a 7th year)
Jacob Warren
Desmond Williams

These players have the OPTION to return and play in 2024. Many likely will not. (15)

Tyler Baron
Warren Burrell
Dayne Davis
Gabriel Jeudy-Lally
Jackson Lampley
Cooper Mays
Bru McCoy
Tamarion McDonald
Elijah SImmons
Doneiko Slaughter
Jabari Small
Javontez Spraggins
Omari Thomas
Brandon Turnage
Wesley Walker

Please note:

Due to Sanctions, 83 is the roster number for 2024.

If 8 of the 15 seniors return and all other underclassmen return that will be 61 players returning. If all 20 of the committed players sign, that will be roster size of 81

Obviously, Tennessee is still recruiting and expects to get 4-7 more commitments. Also, they are hoping to hit the portal heavy.

As you can tell, there is going to have to be significant attrition out of underclassmen.

I thought John Campbell still has his Covid year and could return (not that I think he will) Is that not the case?

do not believe os

2018 he played in 4 games and redshirted
2019 played 11 games
2020 played 7 games
2021 DNP due to injury
2022 played 12 games
2023 has played in 9 games

I guess like Pili he could appeal for an additional year.

We'll be a better team next year.

With or without the portal.

This is a very average senior led team.
3 times this season they've gotten pasted. Not supposed to happen to a veteran team...😕
