Tennessee did not play in the national championship in 1997. They played an eventual co-National Champion, but they did not play in a National Championship.

The Rose Bowl was the National Championship game that year. Tennessee had no shot at a crown. As a side, that game was very humiliating for me. I made fun of a lot of Gator fans after their embarrassment in 1995 to Nebraska. Then Peyton got drilled and looked pathetic in that game. It's not one we talk about much (thankfully).
