You guys seem to forget how close we were to losing that game and this being a different converation.
We had more talent and the best player (Stokes) on the floor. I still think next year is the measuring stick and he will obviously be here. For better or worse.
I hope for Cuonzo's sake Stokes comes back. Dont think Pops is gonna cut it in the post.....
I think we win 70 - 63.
I'm happy we won, but Martin has rode about as favorable schedule as possible the last few weeks. He'll probably win tomorrow, lose to Duke and get an extension for winning two games in the tourney. He still has major deficiencies as a coach and there are much better options out there for us. Unfortunately, he will still be the UT coach for the foreseeable future and we will continue to get mediocrity from his coaching.

We all know the story, it is getting old favorable schedule the last few weeks. Underachievement, Major deficiencies as a coach, better options?
If you fire Martin at this point, then name the idiot coach that comes in here and replaces him.
The kind of coach that we would like to come here is not the one that would accept a job here knowing that we just fired a coach with a winning record and that won possibly 2 Tourney games with the SOS in the 20s.
Oh yea while you are at it get your check book ready to write a check for Martin's buyout and keep it open because the next hire is not going to be cheap.
Half of the problem with the BB team is the fans with their expectations and their analysis of next year's team without a game even being played.
How secure is CCM's job at that point?
Before you say it's not likely, just look at this season as a whole. Many ups and downs.
The "Who 'ya gonna get?" justification is probably one of the worst justifications for keeping a mediocre coach there is. Good coaches don't give a crap how the previous guy wasn't as successful as they intend to be. Otherwise, if we're operating under the premise that "we can't do any better so we might as well keep the coach we have", then we might as well disband the program.
And, I hope that the next coach isn't cheap. You have to spend money to make money and it isn't a coincidence that the best coaches demand the most money.
Plus, did you really say the problem is "fan expectations"? Good lord, you presented nearly every ridiculous fan cliché and faulty reasoning. At least you didn't tell me to send my resume to the UT AD.
Never stated that there wasn't anybody better.
Coaches care and like Job Security.
So if we don't follow your lead and call you out with a realistic argument, you get over heated and declare that the solution is to disband the team. Who is the loser now?
I think you need to send in your resume. You seem to have all the answers and complaints with zero solutions. But don't send it in for the coaching position, you might as well send it in for the AD or President's position because we need more irrational thinking and drama.
You offer the same argument that some offer up because they don't know.
How do you know that CCM is a mediocre coach? Why don't you ask his players if they think he is mediocre?
OBTW, you are wasting your time because he will be here next year. So rant all you want.

Thank you for completing all of the boxes for faulty fan logic. I mean, why bother even having a message board if you should be required to qualify as a major D1 coach? Might as well just run a fanzine instead of a discussion board.
Beyond that, "realism", apparently, includes the nonsense that good coaches give a crap about how the previous guy couldn't cut it at a program and take the job expecting to fall short of expectations.
As far as firing Martin, I've never mentioned it one way or the other, but year three, four or five makes no difference in me noting how he's a very mediocre coach. The fact that we have a number of fans on this site that are so fearful of change that they will accept such mediocrity doesn't change this fact.
Your previous rant sounded like you were a 2 year old throwing a temper tantrum because you were not getting your way.
I see that you have had a drink and managed to calm down somewhat.
Msg boards I guess are so fans can do what fans do --- complain about the Administration, the players, and the coaches. Not really.
For some, reality doesn't seem like the option because face it everybody sitting behind a keyboard one can always find the better coach, coach them up, or turned them into a group of overachievers by just their strokes on a keyboard. That is your fan Logic.
Here is more for you, It is easy to get that coach out of here and hire that guy, call this guy for a donation, get that 5* player, fill seats, make every fan happy. All done easily behind the desk. That's mediocre.
Not sure about CCMs hire to begin with, but I strongly believe he will be here next year and I can wait to throw him under the bus when the time comes, but as a supporter of Vol Athletics I support the team and the Coach and it does no good to get on a bandwagon to get rid of him this year.
I know with next year its already going to be a long season so why be more miserable and sound like the town crier or ruin this moment of being in the NCAA with this crap about the Coach.
Call some of those potential hires tonight and ask them how it felt to lose to a higher seeded team.
I am sure you donate enough to the university to rant like this and while you are at it call D. Hart and tell him CCM is mediocre. Make sure you post his answer on Volnation. I do know what his answer was about Dooley.
All this does is just makes the Fan base look like idiots, we are in the Tourney and yes we did underachieve and yes fans are disgruntled with the coach, and yes Pearl did do a great job here.
So What's new? Did another elephant walk into the room.
Enjoy the Tournament and UT Success if they win tomorrow and put the failures in the Past. People always state the Tournament is a new Season. Well, it is.
We probably will not win it and you will still want to let CCM go and I can accept it, but live in the moment not because you dislike CCM but for the players.
IOW, Support the Team. There is a time and place for everything.
You can go to your room now and have another drink and think about it.
Good grief that was a lot of nonsense, topped off by dealing the "True Fan" card near the end.
All of this doesn't change the fact that Martin is a mediocre coach. I can be happy for a win and still realize this.
To answer the question, Martin's job is safe. It probably should be also.
Just something to think about.
Martin is the 11th highest paid coach in the SEC. He's actually over performed his contract by a WIIIDDEEEE margin. He's significantly underpaid. He's had a top four SEC program the last three years. If he was a professional player, we'd talk about him as somebody undervalued and how the Vols are getting a great return.
Honestly, if Hart would is just going to go after a mid major up and comer (which I have no idea if he would), you might as well keep Martin and hope he improves since he's been coaching for only a short time.
