...and end up playing a 9-3 (7-1 conference) Memphis team that has won 6 in a row...and....lose?

Will you be happy we went to a bowl game then?

I'm back and forth.

For this year, and this year only with Butch, I'm fine with just making a bowl game. Winning one is icing on the cake for me. Next year I'm expecting 8-10 wins.

West Virginia is a possibility for an opponent if UT goes to the Liberty Bowl.

The Liberty isn't an AAC tie in, so Memphis will not be there. Memphis is playing in the Birmingham or Miami Beach Bowl. Besides, even if we played Memphis in the Liberty Bowl, do many really think there would be more Memphis fans?

Isn't that their home Stadium? I'd say they'll play somewhere else if that's the case.

It would be awful to lose to them. 4 straight seasons with 7 losses, but a bowl game would still be a big improvement considering the circumstances we were put through this year. I'm not expecting 8-10 wins next year as most of our team will be Sophomores. I do not think many of you understand the rebuilding process that this team is STILL going through. Many of you do not like to hear that, because you want to win, and I do too. But I feel like it still may take more than year 3 to get to the next level.

Liberty is Big 12 #4 pick vs. an SEC pool pick this year. American conference is alternate pick (if one conference doen't have enough teams to fill, etc.)

Liberty Bowl CEO was on Memphis radio a few times recently & said he wishes he could get Memphis vs. UT, but it would be unlikely b/c of conference tie-ins. He said he'd love to get WVU, as Dave mentioned above, which would still be a tough, but good matchup IMO...

8-10 wins you may want to pump the brakes just a little. 7 will probably be the ceiling for next season, but 8 wins would be overachieving

Would have to be in Birmingham, liberty bowl isn't going to take an AAC team over a big 12 team.

First, I'm pretty sure the liberty bowl can't have two teams from tennessee.
Second, going bowling is always better than not going bowling.

The Liberty Bowl is our destination, as long as Slive approves it. Liberty Bowl officials have made it pretty clear which SEC school it wants.

Yes. At this point, the extra practices are much more important for the longevity and future of our program than actually winning the game, should we lose. Winning it would be great though and a positive spin on a rough, hard-fought, and hard-earned season.
