...and Gruden is hired? What happens if he is not able to lead us to wins right away? Now I personally think that with Gruden we could get a lot of teams commits to flop and sign with TN.
Please dont bash me for a stupid thread, I am just asking what is the realistic expectations with a Homerun hire.

Just want to ask Volnation if Gruden hire would be more logical than somebody already coaching the college ranks.

I agree it is time for Dooley to go.

No worries. I think Gruden would be a slam dunk, and in the case the first 2 years were bad, there is no way they could be Dooley Bad

Saban went 6-6 his first year at Alabama...Then he got his first FULL recruiting class in...And the rest is history...For some people its doesn't take years to build a program....Gruden would draw top recruits from all over the country.

Very true. Saban was able to coach up Shula's players.
I think Gruden could do the same if Bray/Hunter/Patterson were to stay

Go back to Jan 2010, evaluate fan rxn to Dooley hire, and then you don't have to wonder why we already want him gone...nobody wanted him from the beginning. Gruden would have to go worse than 4-17 in the SEC over the next 3 years to even be considered from being ousted.

Yes he would. Would we be in contention in the east his first year, probably not, but I think it would be safe to say, that he will have us in a much better situation by year two.

That's a big assumption..........not to mention the bigger assumption that he would even pick up the phone if Hart called.

I think if there is a change that the new coach will do well. I think next season we are set for good things even if we keep Dooley.

just speaking for me i wouldnt mind giving gruden (or someone with his background) a few years shot, the problem i have with dooley is that he has never been a proven winner anywhere in his coaching past. its hard to bet on a guy when youve never seen him win.

What if we fire Dooley like everyone wants and Gruden says no? He may have zero desire to recruit 365 days a year and teach 18 year olds the fundamentals. I have no clue what he wants. He may jump on the offer and be our coach for the next 10 years. I'm just curious if those wanting to fire Dooley tomorrow would still want that if Gruden declines our offer and we scramble to get another up and coming coach.

Saban inherited a pretty talented 2 deep roster. A team that went 10-2 two years prior. Shula left a pretty stocked pantry. It took Alabama two recruiting cycles, ~6 years, from their major meltdown (our 2008) to get to Saban. It will take the same for us, because irregardless of anything else when you're that far down it's about recruiting cycles.

There is no way we could end up with a person as unlucky as Derek Dooley. Ive supported him and still do, but he seems to just find a way not to win. Never seen anything like it. Sunseris defense is the problem and that is Dooleys fault. He should have been smart enough to know not to change schemes when winning now was the most important thing. Feel bad for him but he did it to himself.

No one is teaching them fundamentals now. Never seen a team so damn intent on not wrapping up to make a freakin tackle. Byron Moore is the worst ive seen.

We still play UGA and SC, bro.

And I 100% believe we should beat those teams next year. We won't contend for Atlanta in December til 2015, but next year is when we start to win one or two of these close October games. Thanks to 07-09 we were in a 3 year deficit to these teams when DD was hired at a time when the SEC is just murdering people. The base is almost built but it'll take another cycle to get to an SEC calibur 2 deep roster.
