So what happens when we stink next year.

When a person submits a controversial thread to an enthusiast fan base, then tells those who're unhappy with such an attitude to grow up, then a lack of reasoning has reared its ugly head from both directions; such as petty name calling. I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of UT fans are happy that CCM's returning. We're also pretty much worn out from this coach changing carousel that's been spinning the last near-decade within our athletic program, so what did you expect by declaring next season's going to stink. What's going to be your favorite rag in case you're wrong? I think UT basketball's in capable hands with Coach Martin and it's apparent that the current and incoming talent will only round out a more consistent team next season. VFL--------for most of us.

Why would someone jump on the Martin train? For one miracle, Cinderella like season? He is still mediocre.

I wouldn't call this past season a Cinderella like season. During that winning streak at the end of the regular season they still lost to Texas A&M. They didn't play one tournament team during that stretch.

It is what it is. I am not bitter nor anything else that we will be retaining CCM. What I am, and what I will continue to do is support our Volunteers. What CCM needs to do is to continue to remain animated and fire these young kids up like he has done for the past 7-8 games.

Cuonzo would still be mediocre.

Which (if true) would still make him a far better coach then you are a fan.
But of course it's not true - it's not mediocre to bring team to sweet 16 in your third year (not by UT basketball standards).

What happens next year ...

... if Stokes stays to play into a first rounder, Rhett comes to give us an excellent frontline. Davis, Thompson, Moore, and Hubbs all have excellent off season growth, then we make a deep NCAA run.

Will you come back here and praise Cuonzo Martin for building our program with great success. Is that what would happen?

If I had to guess, I think he would just restart the thread next year since Stokes and Rhett would be leaving.

Personally, I would be praising his recruiting of Stokes and Rhett. It's hard to convince someone with obvious talent like Stokes to stay even if it is in their best interest (I think it's in Stokes' best interest to stay, but I can't say for sure). Rhett has a lot of impressive schools chasing after him, too.

Instead of getting rid of Cuonzo and collecting 1.3 million it looks like we are probably gonna give him an extension. What happens next year when we go to the NIT or worse. We will probably get rid of him anyway but instead will pay a big buyout. This may be one of the dumbest moves in Tennessee history. :banghead2:

Give it a rest.

Give me a break. Most reasonable fans (and our AD) said the expectation was to make the tourney. The team played hard down the stretch and we did. THEN...we caught fire and the attention of the media by winning 3 games and barely missing the E8.

It's time to give props to CCM and the team, get behind them, and look forward to next year. I can't, for the life of me, understand why some people continue to be all doom-and-gloom. It's just counter-productive. If things go south, we'll cross that bridge. For now, be thankful that you had basketball to get excited about in March.

Give Tony Robbins a listen. He'll help you through the tough times.

Year one we were picked 11th in the conference. We finished 2nd. Year 2 we were without Maymon and still won 20 games and landed a five star recruit. Oh and we were one team away from being in the tournament. 290 other teams wished they were as close. This year we did have some bad losses but Memorial and luck played a role in that. We made it to the Sweet Sixteen and some good halftime adjustments almost had us in the Elite Eight.

Why are you so sure next year is lost?

Maybe we can sign enough Tusculums to play to get us in the tourney.

Lol he was, he committed to UT more than once. When he shot things down he decided to stay close to home, that's recruiting for ya. Memphis and also thought Stokes was there's, so there's that.

And no, none of the Lawson's or Skal are headed to Memphis, but if I was Josh his fans keep making the excuse there's too many egos with Memphis kids, he might wanna stop taking em.

?????

you know something that no one else does?

This is the first time I have been able to respond since I started this thread. Looking at the original post I didn't think what I said was that bad. It was a legitimate question. It certainly wasn't bad enough to be called something as petty as a high-schooler to something as vulgar as a pr*ck. Some of you need to grow up.

When you act like a drama queen, and post stupid stuff, don't be surprised when people call you out.

This.

If we suck next year, then let's criticize Martin....next year. Not 7 months before the season starts and less than a week after the previous season ended.

2009.

Mighty Memphis is one of a handful of schools to log 4 straight sweet 16s and one of an even smaller group of schools to do it twice (82/83/84/85 and 06/07/08/09)

Don't try to compare your lousy program to ours when it comes to NCAA tournament success.

How many vacated years? Not just under Cal but in general? Your program is as corrupt as that city is and I lived there for two years. Thank god I got out!

I would be more sanguine about Martin if he'd decided to pass the ball inbounds to McRae.

Under-rated, accurate post IMO.

Which begs the question - who did not know to do that besides Zo? If not Jordy get it to Josh. Both of them can create offense and draw fouls.

It was a good call. Get over it. He got fouled which was called wrong. He should have shot two for the game. He had the drive and score or draw the foul or the kick out to a wide open Mcrae if he drew the double and had no shot. He had multiple options on the play.

McRae cuts to the goal when his man goes to double (instead of standing clueless 18 feet away), Stokes hits him for a dunk or a foul, and everybody shuts up about the play call.

End game in college basketball has become a lost art. 4 out of 5 close games end with an ugly forced shot, often using the toss it to so-and-so and let him go one-on-one mentality.

Personally, I liked getting it to the big guy who can either take it to the hole or dish to McRae or Richardson. (He may well be our best passer in the half-court.) It opened up beautifully, and even with McRae not cutting Stokes probably should have dished to him anyway. I suspect he would've dished once he had the double beat. The set wasn't the problem. The problem was: a) McRae standing flat footed, b) Stokes trying to split the double team, c) horrendous call.

I mean you cant expect a coach to perform his best under the cloud of a one year contract, who knows what will happen I would imagine next year will be rough regardless who the coach is. I think this goes back to hart wanting to fix the football program first and once thats fixed the other sports will take care of themselves

And why are things rough?
BTW, it's quicker to fix the basketball program.
