So what happens when we stink next year.

Didn't you hear? The Sweet 16 run isn't legitimate because we didn't beat Florida, Arizona, and the Miami Heat to get there.

(Of course these same people never say anything about the lucky draw we got in our Elite Eight run.)

I'll never get the people that minimize our own tournament run to make a point. All 3 of those teams we beat in the tournament were good teams if for no other reason than the fact they were in the tournament.

I suppose he had Lofton for all 462 games he's won. I have no idea how on earth anyone can doubt his coaching. He's won 20+ games in 17 of 19 years as a head coach. He has a 76% career winning percentage in those 19 seasons.

It's fine if you want to hate him, but I don't understand the doubting his ability when we've saw it up close and personal.

The Auburn job sucks. The last time ANY coach won at greater than 60% there was 50 years ago.

He has had 3 years.

Three years that started under fairly difficult circumstances. I think Cuonzo may finally get it done if we give him enough time, but it will still be a process. He obviously doesn't get in a hurry.

I believe that is why there is so many differing opinions. He does a lot of things very well. He has a different style than most successful coaches. Plus, his in-game coaching may still be a work-in-progress.

I was all for going in another direction, but I am not against Cuonzo. He seems to be a really great guy.

Thank you!

Dude is a winner. And a lot of folks here will be in full blown depression mode (myself included) when AU is at the top of the SEC and going to the Dance every year. Meanwhile we're sitting here with Zo hoping to get a lucky streak of games in the tourney "like that one time we made it to the Sweet 16", OR we'll hire Barack Obama as our coach because he'll be available and once filled out a good March Madness bracket back in 2010, which qualifies him to be the coach for UT basketball.

Definitely don't get this. I honestly had never heard of anyone doing this to a Sweet 16 run. And certainly no one ever did this to any of Pearl's NCAAT wins, even though going by their logic, he beat 1 good team in all his NCAAT games here. And when you point this out, the conversation is quickly switched to "DERP! HE WENT TO 6 STRAIGHT NCAAT!", as if that was what was being debated.

That's depending on a perfect storm and everything going right. How often has that happened to UT basketball?
We've shed a couple of faulty parts that cost us an elite 8 by 2 points.
Don't need a perfect storm, just consistent progress.

It's not "minimizing" the run. It's putting it in context to the mediocrity we witnessed for 2.9 years. The 2.9 years leading up to the umass and mercer wins say a lot more about cuonzo than beating those scrub teams. But we all enjoyed the wins.

Pearl beat more than 1 good team. He also had good regular seasons and won titles. Trying putting things into context and a little intellectual honesty.

And please note the .1 year above mediocrity were wins against UMASS and MERCER (which I had to google to find out where that even was). Not quite wins over #1 Kansas, Memphis, and Vandy at home...those were the days.

You know what I don't understand? Why Bruce Pearl is continually brought up in threads having nothing to do with him. The level of infatuation that some people around here have for him is truly disturbing.

I agree, he's generally brought up by the strongest of Martinites.

Bottom line...CCM got us to the Dance this year, which was everybody's expectation for this team.

He lost points for UT being on the bubble. He gained points for having a nice run to the Swt16. A wash.

Bottom line...he met expectations for THIS season. Odd that people keep parsing what he did in seasons one and two.

Keep hoping, them spending 90 million on basketball facilities and another 20 on a coach says they might be taking it up a notch. Lots of talent near Auburn too.

None of that has much to do with the fact they'll still probably suck next year. They aren't magically going to get better.

And yes..."might" be taking it up a notch. Not guaranteed as so many here seem to believe. Heck UT fans have more faith about turning it around down there than the few Auburn basketball fans do.

And people who have added an Auburn logo to their profile.

Not seeing much of that, but his name is spoken every other breath by some people, usually in some strange attempt to re-write history or maybe whistle past the graveyard.

I hope Auburn loses every game except vs Kentucky and Alabama. But I'm a realist. If Cliff Ellis can win big there, so can Bruce.

yet our NCAA tournament results were essentially the same as this year. It's a tournament sport

I'm not worried about next year so much as the next 5. They went from what should be an easy win or two each year to what is likely going to turn into a formidable opponent both on the court and in recruiting areas of Georgia we recruit. No clue why anyone has trouble admitting that.

People, get over it. Bruce ain't here. I am a Bruce fan. I think the administration made a huge mistake by firing him. I dreaded seeing him come back into the SEC at another school. But it has happened. We can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

But allowing Cuonzo to leave the way many of you still want him to would be to start a dumpster fire that would burn for years.

No extension? Huge moron move.

No raise to put him in the upper half of the league? Our athletic department is a joke.

Expecting a dismal season next year just based upon perceptions? Cuckoo nest time.
