So What are we going to do about these kids?

Not the point I was making at all. The post to which I was responding talked about kids knowing what they've got, and how they wouldn't do something to ruin it. I listed NFL players within the last 2 months who have messed up with lots more at stake.

Label it however u want to... if i can carry a gun..and defend this great nation...i earn my nations respect..i am responsible for my actions..... there is no excuse for this foolishness... there is no age that excuses dumbass actions of kids who feel entitled... they wouldnt feel entitled if not for the ones who came before them and let the feel so entitled

blah blah hooah blah. I've already responded to the whole army thing. I respect that you were there.

These kids, however, weren't.

they are still my age "at the time"... mature decisions will call the future of the lifestyle... 18 and dumb= hope u are smarter than normal...... 18 and disiplined= a good forward looking plan.... i would have never went to college if not for the military.. and never overseas which taught me.... more than any college or life expierence could have taught me!!!

I'd probably tell him Oorah, and thank him for his service.

And I said that because I'm sick and tired of everyone using the military argument, especially when I've specifically said that there's a difference between playing college football and fighting to protect one's country.

Oh, believe me, I'd thank you for your service. What I said was in response to the people puffing out their chests and taking offense to me saying that all 18 year old kids aren't adults. You did the same thing, using the armed forces to prove that all 18 year old kids are adults.
No matter how much effort you put in, it won't change what kids act like.
I didn't say that to mock the army, but instead, to show the uselessness of using the army in this argument.

Thanks for your service.

The below quote is taken directly from a 2008 Harvard Medical Study. It also talks about how environmental factors can impact the speed with which the lobes connect as well. Very interesting. Anyway, I just read the last couple of pages of this thread and I'm not sure how the whole military thing was brought into the fray. That part doesn't make allot of sense to me. My cousin is in the Navy and from what I hear, they've had some bar brawls in Perth that make this one look like a sorority slumber party. No matter what line of work you are in or how you were raised, young people are going to do stupid things every now and again. Always have and always will.

"Human and animal studies, Jensen and Urion note, have shown that the brain grows and changes continually in young people—and that it is only about 80 percent developed in adolescents. The largest part, the cortex, is divided into lobes that mature from back to front. The last section to connect is the frontal lobe, responsible for cognitive processes such as reasoning, planning, and judgment. Normally this mental merger is not completed until somewhere between ages 25 and 30."

The military was brought up because one particular poster wanted to shout from the highest mountain top that he's in the military. It had little if any relevance to the discussion.

I have all the respect in the world for our armed forces, but that guy struck me as the type of kid who joined the military for the free weapons and cool haircut.

Not sure about the cool haircut part. It sucked when I got mine cut. In and out of the chair in about 2 minutes and I had quite a bit of hair back then.
