May be both but definitely talent is not matured yet. Once Jack Jones, Richmond, and Chance Hall get ready, they better be good or it's got to be coaching.

I'm still scratching my head about Bates, Bryant, and Bynum. Injuries holding them back? Are they no more developed than a walk-on or true freshmen? If so is that on the coaches or are they all somehow coincidentally busts? Wish someone had some insight on the situation with these guys. Will they all get passed up once Kirkland takes over at MLB? I had high hopes for Bates, figured he would be a natural given his dad and being around the NFL his whole life.

JJ was not very good as a MLB last year. Please don't count him.

Maggitt will be side lined 6-10 wks with a chipped hip bone . It'll be interesting to see who'll emerge as defensive leader. Cam maybe or JRM.

They already are defensive/team leaders. Add Randolph and even Kelly Jr on the defensive side of the ball.

As for Kirkland, the question is: How many mistakes will he make. Athleticism is nice, of course, but if you don't know what you're doing out there we're talking disaster. If I'm the DC, I'm playing both guys. You don't give up on a guy after his first or second college start--that would be stupid.

Seriously how long did you expect a walk-on to start? When is the appropriate time to give up on a guy that is not playing well?

This is why coaching turnover is so catastrophic. I am content plugging along with 7 win seasons for a few years until Butch can get about 4 elite recruiting classes in.

Guys, Dillon Bates is an OLB and he's been battling injury since he stepped on campus. He is not a MLB. Why does everyone keep expressing concern over Bates not competing for the MLB when that's not what he is? You might as well be saying "I'm concerned that Elliot Berry isn't in the conversation for the starting MLB position."

Exactly. People just think a LB is a LB and can just play either side or the middle and that definitely is not the case.

Bates spent the entire spring and fall camps at Mike Linebacker. Guess maybe he's at Will now. Looks like Bates will be a special teams warrior for the most part until at least next year.

7 wins should be considered a failure considering our talent and schedule. If you just like having low expectations to avoid disappointment, that's cool, but an expectation of 8+ games this year and 9 or 10 wins next year is pretty reasonable.

Uh, maybe that was because of necessity? I can certainly see why during spring with DKjr injured. In fall they were just trying everyone out at MLB but it was pretty clear that Bates was not going to be that guy.

The bottom line is Dillon Bates is not going to be our MLB and that's not a poor reflection on him. That's just not his natural position and when he FINALLY gets healthy and develops he will be a big contributor to our defense.

Uh, I just ask when he was moved. MLB is not Jumpers natural position either but he started.

I never said Bates wouldn't in time be a big contributor so don't preach to me.
