So we dont bash players?

Yeah "let's" do that...nip it in the bud.

I just don't understand why we can't discuss the players, coaches and program without bashing them. Players, recruits and their families come on this site. But even if they didn't we should be able to discuss these issues without bashing. Talking about how well or how bad things went can be done without calling names or being derogatory. That's all.
But I do find it odd that if you, I or others come on to defend a member of the program we're immediately attacked by other posters. Yet a poster bashes a member of the program and they're OK. Very odd for a site that's dedicated to UT.

Edit: and by site I'm talking about the "fans" that make up the site community.

I agree. We're a beaten bitter lot of self-hate and defeatism. It's similar to the panic in the nation when Reagan took over for Carter. We were just hoping the Soviets would be kind and not destroy us. This man stood up and stated it was going to be the opposite...buncha folks freaked out, made fun of his age et al...he was right.

Yes sir

Discussion about the players, coaches, and program in any sort of negative light will always be frowned on by some people. They think only discussion about positive stuff is the way to go. I think all discussion is fine as long as you're not making up outright lies. Rumors will happen and warrant discussion. There are negative things that will happen. Discussing them isn't bashing, its reality.

It's a fine line between passion and stupidity.

I have a hard time bashing guys playing this game for free.

FREE?

How 'bout free books and tuition, free room and board, a free education?

Certainly they are not playing "for free".

Ok, so I think I have a grasp on all of this.
Looks like 2 subjects combined.
1. There seems to be an issue where (most) people believe you can disagree with
a player without just being completely insulting. While there have been some comments that have gone past disagreeing.

2. The OP seems even more bothered when it comes via hypocrisy.
I.e. when a poster who is currently using words like "dumb" etc..
had previously declared "these loses are completely on the coaches and conservative play calling" - "not passing in the second half". When someone pointed out that if 1 of 10 different plays had been executed, we win, they are accused of "throwing the players under the bus". Now that some of those are the same ones using much harsher terms, the hypocrisy is really annoying to him?

Yes? No? maybe?

During the season when it was a bash fest on here, some of us would defend the staff and the players. Many of you on here would cry like a 3 year old who dropped their candy and "shout" at the rest of us that you only bash the staff. Well, I suggest you read the thread on North, Kamara. Phillips and Blair.
When Jones states we have the best fans in America it's obvious he doesn't read this site. Clay Travis has called us a dumb fan base. As much as it pains me to agree with him, he is right.
Those of you bashing these kids should be ashamed. It's very easy to discuss their situation or rumored situation without bashing them.

Another sanctimonious post. Feel better? Now STFU!

Estute observation, I think there is either more or you were wrong.

To say execution yes that refers to a player. When you insult a player's mother, while stating a fact about his poor execution , that's out of line.

To insult a player and then get your "hissy on" when others do, that's blue font.

To insult another poster, that's being a bully(unless it was actually funny).

Don't be sad, when you get out witted, just get used to it, acknowledge it and move on.

What he don't like, is negativity directed at anything Vol. I appreciate his point of view, and endorse that opinion.

I say let the non Vol fans do the bashing of the Vols, why bash out own team, players or program.

If we were Penn St. I would understand.

But we're not. We are the Vols!

I will give my all for Tennessee today!

Go Vols!

There is a huge difference in discussing and bashing. A huge difference.

My issue is being derogatory about the players or the program. Discussing performance is fine and what this board is about (one of the reasons) but that can be done in a respectful manner. I don't understand why that is such a bad thing.

no. sjt hands down

Sjt offers a lot of strong, well thought out, reasoned opinions, whether or not you like those opinions or not and whether you like the manner in which he presents those opinions. IMHO, he talks about specific issues and aspects of the program, and he does it in a respectful manner the overwhelming majority of the time.

ReaderVol on the other hand, offers none of that. ALL he ever does is go from thread to thread, post to post and b**** and moan about specific posters he disagrees with....no debate, no nothing, just a bunch of condescension and arrogant drivel telling long time VN members how much they suck and how they aren't true Vol fans and how they should go pull for somebody else if he/she dares to question/discuss a decision by the head coach.. F that guy. SJT18 is one of the better posters on here....ReaderVol is by far the worst I've ever seen during my 3+ years on VolNation.

I believe a lot of the time if there is discussion happening about negative things, it's deemed bashing. My comments were just saying I think that's nonsense. If we disagree with say recruiting and not focusing on instate players or we speak out against the idea of dumping recruits after taking their commitment then it's "bashing" when in fact it's just discussion on something negative about UTs recruiting practices.

People are judged by the company they keep. I take your post as a compliment sir.

Truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
How much respect someone has for another posters opinions is usually related to how often you agree with them.

Absolutely up for discussion. But there's a HUGE difference in a discussion and name calling and bashing of players. Fade you're not an idiot like some on here. The thread on Blair was so bad it got deleted. Bashing players is absolutely classless. I don't apologize a bit for calling clowns who bash players out.

Ha! Don't act like you stop at players. ALL you did most of this season was tell everyone who criticized Butch for whatever reason, that they were wrong or weren't "true" fans. You even went overboard and said a lot of posters wanted Butch fired. Which wasn't the case. They just wanted him to pull his head out and coach smarter and stop blaming players for not executing in post game interviews. I wish I had a dollar for every time you used the word "ILK." I wouldn't have bought a power ball ticket. Nobody cares about your two degrees from UT, or that you go to ALL Vol games. Which you used early on to bolster your argument that you know what you are talking about. Threads immediately following the OU game exposed you as knowing jack **** about the actual game of football.
However, nothing will stop you from being the condescending ass that you are on this board.

Also an exaggeration.
There were polls, there was posters with the "fire him" mentality.
That's ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
But everyone isn't entitled to their own personal set of facts.

I believe it was westernKY vol that posted "I won't be happy until Butch Jones is run out of town on a rail".
Once again, That's his opinion and nothing wrong with him expressing it. You and a few others that pretend it wasn't said? Now that's just not true or fair.

No, not for me. How much respect I have for another poster on here directly relates to how they conduct themselves, how they interact with other posters and, to a much lesser extent, how informed their opinion is, not whether I agree with it or not.

I don't always agree with you Charge, but you offer reasoned, respectful opinions and posts on here. Same for JP, Kristy, Sjt, Butchna, etc. Lotta bright guys in here who share the similar passion for the Vols as I who invest some of their time and energy into the program and this site daily. They bring good opinions, good insight, good information and I appreciate it. Others?....not so much....especially the ones who sling a lot of mud and do a lot of name calling of other posters. I obviously don't like that, don't think it has a legit place here and am gonna fire back at those guys....ReaderVol, IMHO, is the worst of the lot.

I've authored around 21,000 posts on here since joining November of 2012....I've had a lot of spirited debates with a lot of guys on here, sometimes in agreement, oftentimes in disagreement and tbh, haven't always comported myself the way I would've liked. But after all those posts and "arguments", over the course of 3+ years, I have exactly one poster on ignore.....I'll give you one guess who it is.
