So was this team really unprepared after having a whole offseason to watch film

Wouldn't be shocking if game prep for GSU was minimal and I don't mean that as a negative. I'd say it's possible that the staff was looking ahead a little to BYU.

I still can't wrap my mind around coming into the first game of the season and not being completely amped up and ready to get after it especially after investing so much time in the offseason to come out like that.
The players may have intentionally lost the game!!

Unfortunately it appears the players are not smart enough to learn and retain what they were taught!! Players need to take the blame for poor execution, not the coaches!!

Agree with it all, but being gassed in the 2nd qtr? That's the players conditioning. Who's at fault for that- coaches!

Players betting on Ga St scandal , breaking news. The entire defense was involved

Looked to me like UT players thought all they had to do was show up, run on the field and GA Southern would immediately acquiesce.

They were prepping for Florida also. I remember D. Taylor stating the coaches were emphasizing tackling after watching Florida vs. Miami.

The coach didn’t prepare for what they saw and couldn’t adjust in game. That says a lot about Pruitt.

What I don’t understand is how you can’t be excited to play the first game of the season. Lack of effort appeared to be the biggest problem to me.

It's likely that this bunch thought they were that much better than GSU. By the time they woke up it was too late to change the mememtum. We've got a bunch of players who aren't driven.

Go back and rewatch the game. Notice how many times on Defense that as State runs by our D and there’s a play 3–5 yards away that you see our guys just watching. One guy is tackling and 5 are kinda hanging out watching instead of laying the wood to somebody

Rumor is that Pruitt's having an affair with a tackling dummy and that his head in not screwed on right?

Without even watching FILM I saw SEVERAL times when players were out ran by a Georgia Southern player and then just shifted to a jog instead of pursuing.

The more I think about this the more angry I get. There was SO little discipline and drive out there in any group in any play.

IF Pruitt survives, I want another shot at these clowns a little ways down the road.

I don't think they put in as much time as we think they did. The proof is in the pudding as they say, and this game showed TN did not properly prepare in the offseason. That's why I think TN has to let JP go ASAP...

I have been trying to understand how this loss happened and the only thing I can fathom is that the coaches thought they could treat the game like a scrimmage. No preparation for the specific opponent, rotate players so they could review the film after the game and decide who should be starting the next game and no real game plan. Pruitt must have thought that there was no risk what-so-ever of losing this game so he could do all this as a tune up for the rest of the season. So I think you are right in that the players thought they could just show up and win, but I think the players got it from the coaching staff.

What I have not been able to figure out is how out of shape our defense is, Tennessee paid a lot of money to get a respected strength and conditioning coach and he has been here for almost two years. I cannot get my head around how gassed the defense was.
