Well UK looks legit. LSU is legit. the turd beat LSU. So it's obvious we didn't give them the game. They're that much better. I am so upset about every else getting better and we don't. Even MiSS St beat Auburn and is progressing but we can't. Now when we play Auburn we'll see how far behind we are.

We are far behind...
No Dominate pass rusher
Only have one ILB- Butuli- KIrkland has never recovered
DB are all True FR or SO. Upperclassman are awful and can't fun- SLOW
No burner at WR- Cant stretch the field
OL is still a work in progress. No uprising. Many new starters and position changes. will be better next year
TE- Could be become a position of strength next year DWA might be factor . Again, some non factors on roster

OVERALL lack of speed on both sides of the ball and very few play markers.... IT is where we are

Auburn doesn't appear to be getting better. Their best game was probably their first. Hopefully they stay in that funk next weekend.

If you watched the Georgia game, you noticed that the Defense played noticeably better and if the 4 forced fumbles bounced right, we would have been in the thick of that game. The offense was slightly better, especially in the mistakes arena. OL still a clusterfork but they made a few less mistakes than usual against a very good DL.

State beat a struggling AU team after losing at home to UF and getting run off the field in Lexington before that.

They were preseason #18 in the AP and picked 3rd in the west.

UF was a winnable game at the time, they're just getting better. Dan is a good coach and you'd expect them to play better as the season goes along.

We just have to face the facts that we could probably be competitive with Vandy, Ole Miss and Arkansas.

We may or may not be the worst team in the SEC but we're certainly in the mix.

The good news IMO is that outside Bama and UGA, I don't think the conference is all that. Coach O, Gus, Muschamp, etc are all a bunch of average to slightly above average coaches. After the hiring debacle, JP will be given a long leash and should have every opportunity to build a solid program. Can he do it? I have no idea and neither do any of you. He was 0-0 as a HC when we hired him. That's not a knock, it's a fact.

Has he made some rookie HC mistakes? Absolutely. I'm not concerned about them. Certainly I'll gripe about them, but I'm not ready to fire him. I'm eager to see if he learns from them. That's what's more important.

It's easier said than done, but the simple analysis is he need to: #1 recruit somewhere between the #5 and #15 class every year, #2 surround himself with good coaches and #3 (mostly) stay out if their way. Demand excellence, but let them do their thing.

Butch would probably still be here if he'd done #3. Phil would still be here if he'd done #2. Dooley wasn't really capable of anything.

The 2 picks especially the one down field were great defensive plays. The other 4 not so much great defense but rather poor ballhandling and a missed blitz assignment.

Yeah, we are behind...

here is the issue that Tennessee fans miss.

Florida had more talent last year than Tennessee. Just like they do this year.

Florida was a dysfunctional program last year due to the head coach and Florida administration being at odds. It impacted the football team and the players stopped trying even before Mac quit. Rarely is a team going to perform when a coach leaves mid-season and is replaced by an "interim" coach. So the talent level being off at Florida was not true, even though many want to believe that.

Did everyone forget, they won the East in 2015 and 2016?

Florida will be pushing Georgia soon. sooner than Tennessee wants. They have 30 sophomores and 36 freshman on their roster. With a year of Mullen, they might be ready to push Georgia next year.

Here's my question, it took a hail mary for florida to beat UT last year. So, one could surmise that the talent level between UF and UT was close to the same. Since UF soundly beat UT this year and with UF defeating LSU, was the "we don't want mehlen" crowd wrong? Is Dan Mullen, no matter how weird he may be, a very good coach?

you can't assess a program by looking at a single game. You have to assess seasons and more than one. I wouldn't use a single game to compare programs either.

Alabama beat Tennessee 19-14 in 2015 in Tuscaloosa. They had to score late to do that. Did you think Tennessee was close to the Alabama program at that point?

i think UT regressed a ton from 2015 to 2016 from a physicality standpoint. We were a better team in 2015 IMO.

LWS, you believe Pruitt is, can change the culture of the program.

Specifically with UF. UT beat them by 10 after not showing up for the first half the previous year. The year before that missed a FG to win in Florida when they had relinquished a 2 score lead in the 4th quarter. The year before that UT lost 10-9 at home.

There is a substantial gap between UT and Bama/UGA and to a lesser degree AU. The idea that there is a substantial talent gap between UT and UF is just not there.

Florida is a program that doesnt accept failure. Over the last decade Tennessee has become a program that has accept failure and makes excuses for hope yet to come. The admin is a disaster, with continual poor choices. Multiple bad coaching hires. And a faithful fan base that now makes excuses for lack of a competent team, that clinges to the slighest glimmer of hope and adamantly defends every coach despite any proven ability to field a competent team. Gonna be a long road.

Florida in all honesty doesn’t have a lot of talent. They just have a hell of a coach. Amazing what coaching can do.
