They jump the gun.. Always have. Remember when Dooley was going to work out also.. I like Jones so far. He's not proven squat though. He's going to get 4 years either way. Hope it works out. I don't like the way these people make hires. It's like they want to find that diamond in the rough to say i told you so. Well so far they've sucked at that..Why does everyone, without question, keep bringing up the Butch Jones hire and saying "maybe it will work out like that," as if that hire has somehow been proven an unqualified success?
Last I checked, Butch Jones went 5-7, lost at home to Vanderbilt, and fielded one of the most inept defenses and passing offenses in UT history.
I agree that there is reason to have hope for the future with that hire, particularly since they recruited so well this past year, but it's hardly a sure thing. Most coaches who post a losing season their first year at a major program don't work out in the long run. I really don't understand why it has been determined by everyone that Jones will.

No you can't. Football was so far in the toilet anyone following Kifturd was going to have a hard time. Even Kiffin had a hard time because Fulmer quite recruiting and starting taking anything he could get. Only problem is he was a mediocre coach to begin with and this is the SEC. Had we had a competent AD at the time, Fulmer would have been fired when he needed to be fired in 2005...Stalling on canning Fulmer set this program back light years. The contract gaffs made it even worse. Hamilton was a terrible AD and Jimmy Cheek should have been fired a long time ago also..I remember very vividly the threads of "We got the right man for the hire". Stories of him meeting with people, Saban giving his blessing, people saying freakin' Alabama and Georgia fans telling them Dooley was the man. The infamous "Wants it" crap.
Having said all that, Jones has done way more than Dooley on the recruiting front, and has been a much better ambassador and salesman for the program. Plus he's not a jerk. But yes, you cannot call him a home run hire just yet.

I think a 61 year old starting at a new (SEC) school would have a hard time recruiting when 90% of potential recruits are going to ask "What and where is Belmont?"
Heard that CCM's new contract would have put him at like 9th in the SEC. Heard on the radio that we want top 1-3 results in the SEC but pay like 7-9th in the league. That's just who we are as an institution and we, as fans, expect top results.
