Today The University lost a good man, a good recruiter, and a good coach. Fulmer made his mistake by choosing offensive coordinator Clawson. Personally, i think that's what lead to the firing of CPF. So now, as a fan i hate to but i have to move on. Now what? I think we are putting alot of emphasis on the new head coach, which is the most important position for the university, BUT, with that said, who will be the coordinators? I'm assuming Chavis will go where Fulmer goes, and were not only losing a head coach but probably 90 percent of the entire coaching staff. So we need a guy who not only can manage and recruit, but has a good staff to come with him (assuming mike hamilton allows the new guy to bring in his own staff, but who knows considering how he likes to run the show obviously). I hope we go after someone in the College ranks, because NFL coaches can't bring their staff with them because of the big drop in pay. I want a group thats worked together and has chemistry. Going outside the Tennessee family will be different too, so the Admin people better think long and hard about it, because if you thought this year was bad, wait until they make a bad hire, who can't recruit, and or recruits differently from the rest of the SEC and trys to compete with the rest of the SEC. We'll be looking at 5 win seasons for years to come. Alabama made a good hire, but how many years did it take to land him, it seems to me you lose a coach that's been there for as many years as Fulmer has, (from other school stand points) that it takes 3-4 coaching changes to get a good fit. Alabama's been through it, Ole Miss has been through it, Florida went through it (Zook). Georgia went through it...I could go on and on.... but i could be wrong, it could be another Fulmer scenario where the guy steps in and makes an impact from the git-go. So tell me fans, what do you want, defensive minded? offensive minded? Hit 'em in the mouth running attack? Spread formation? West Coast? 4-3? 3-4? Whats the key to success? Im interested in seeing what everyone thinks...was this a mistake? Who knows? We will soon see, i just hope for the best, i also hope fulmer the best, because we all know he's going to go somewhere and coach football. Ah, the Irony if he gets a new offensive coordinator, and has a 10 win season next year and we are stuck with a nobody hire (such as clawson was) and win 5 games. Hmm, what could fulmer do with a Texas Tech school, or a South Florida, or a Georgia Tech, schools that have the recruiting in-state at his backdoor....I dont know guys, i wish i knew what was going to happen. Change defeinetly is coming...good or bad...we gotta take it and move on. All i can say is Go Vols! :clapping:

We move on and hire a new coach that can put this mess of a program back together.

Fulmer was a mediocre coach on the day that he was hired. It finally caught up to him. Blaming Clawson for his demise is stupid.

Special Teams? You can't say defensively we have struggled, because we haven't.

Special teams would be one and a defense that refuses to attack an offense and play their safeties 25 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Yes we have. Although we have some good stats, we have not been able to make the stops and get off the field when we need to (see 2nd half of UCLA for one example).

Last I checked and Fulmer was also the Head Coach of the Defense, and well...nobody's complaining about them.... Come on dude, we can't score more than 10 points without the opposing defense giving it to us.... How can you win more than 5 games with scoring what? an average of 7 points from our offense, i'd say in SEC games our defense probably has more then our offense.

No but when our offensive screws up and give the defense a 20 yards field to protect, we 75 percent of the time hold them to 3 points.

Sec eastern division champions last year, this year we couldn't score on maryville high school, basically the same players, besides a quarterback, who's now actually throwing the ball well. Oh yah, and our supposivley dominate offensive line who switches the strong side of the field every play....predicitable? Yeah, we were in much better shape in last year, and 20 years prior, Like i said Maryville's defense would own us, its not the players fault, 1st down we run the ball, 2nd we playaction and get sacked, third and long we throw a screen....hard to play defense against that..

Dude. Let it go. It's going to be alright. The sun will come up in the morning, you'll see. Tennesse was winning football games before Fulmer (B.F.)

Got lucky that all the teams above us lost. Wasn't because we were that good, because we weren't. We backed in.

That is not something to be proud of.

Stupid. A bad coach doesn't have the success he had in the 90s.

The game did pass him by, and it was time to move on.
