So now what are the odds???

Stokes would have to undergo changes unlike any man can create to become like Charles Barkley. Barkley was an amazingly explosive athlete. Really a strange freak to be able move and jump like he could at his weight.

He a couple inches shorter than Malone, less athletic too. But maybe if he worked really really hard on his jumper he could get it to where Malone did.

But there's not 5 players in the NBA now that are as good as Malone was.

The NBA is a totally different animal now. Guys like Malone, Barkley etc. wouldn't be as successful these days given the shift of focus from low-post scoring to perimeter, mid-range and driving scoring.

IMO, Jarnell should shed 25ibs and become a power forward, lean and mean. Glad he is/was a Vol.

I think he's about as slim as his genetics allow. Not many 6'-7" 240 lb'ers with size 20 shoes. The larger the mass of the building the more substanial footing required.

If stokes develops a mid range game it will improve his stock. He's good around the rim and taking it to the hole, if he develops a mid range game he will be an extremely tough guard

Malone was good 20 feet and in, Barkley was superior off the dribble and good shooting out to 20 feet himself. They'd both be dominating in today's game imo.

Since it appears CCM is going to be staying with a probably raise and extension, what are the odds that Stokes stays for his senior year????

We need him BADLY next year! He could make some long green, but seems like a good kid and maybe that isn't his only motivation.

I will say 60%-40% in favor of staying with CCM coaching, am I way off???

.

This years draft is heavy with talent! At the start of the season, a mock draft had Stokes going in the 1st round to Houston Rockets. Now he is projected as a late 2nd rounder.

I think he stays another year!

Wes Unseld played well for a big man but he wasn't very athletic up and down the floor.

Needs more than that. His dribbling is not good and he has no mid-range or 3 point game to speak of. NBA players are physical freaks, 6'8 is a SF these days.

I think he has time to improve that. He looked downright clumsy at times during his freshman year, less so during his sophomore year, and in control most of the time this year.

He's still developing. He just turned 20 two months ago. His age/early college entrance should actually work in his favor for coming back. He could enter the draft next year with 3.5 years of college under his belt and still barely be 21 years old.

He's the oddest HOFer there is. Basically a few good but not great years early in his career, then very pedestrian numbers. I can't imagine there's another HOFer who has a career average of 10 points a game. Makes Bernard barely getting in seem even worse.

If you want to look at a below the rim PF that Stokes could turn into, look at David West. West is a big tough rebounder, with a nice touch around the basket. West's best offense is using his big body to create space for his mid range jumper. There is no reason why Stokes can't pick this skill up. Otherwise, Stokes is DaJuan Blair.

One reason why Jarnell should consider staying is because of the depth of this year's draft. Timing is important, and you don't just have to look at his strengths on the court. I would expect him to wait until the last possible minute so that he can see who is entering early.

He may still not be a 1st round pick next year, but he can at least do his homework.

I think several players that would have declared this year normally will wait it out for a chance in next years draft. The top 20-25 picks have basically been set in stone for most of the season. This is considered one of the deepest drafts in the last 20 years.

He is a PF he just plays the 5 because we don't have one. There are several 6'7 6'8 strong PFs in the NBA. Stokes is as good or better than a bunch I can think of. He improves his jumper he'll be a late first next year.

Stokes got the taste of winning. If I'm reading him right, he'll want another season to get to an elite 8 which just slipped through his fingers.
If he doesn't break into the first round, he'll be back.

If he thinks he can make an elite 8 next year he is way optimistic. He will be doubled and tripled all next year with little relief. I believe he should go as he is mote than likely never going to be a threat away from the basket as how in 1 year is he gonna get a jumper. His stock is at highest now. Why risk injury and see his numbers fall off from triple teams.

When I look at NBA potential I look at who he'll guard. Because despite claims to the contrary, serious defense is played in the NBA. It's just that there are scorers that are close to unguardable.

I don't see many favorable match ups for Stokes.

I think he can guard power 4's like a Zach Randolph type (not Euro 4's like Nowitzki) and even some 5's. I know length gave him issues at some points this year, but he may be the best I've ever seen at moving people with his lower body without fouling, which will translate very well to the NBA IMO.

Stokes is one of the worst defenders on the team.

:good!: He is a tweener. That is not to say he is not great or has not been appreciated at UT, just that he may not be as appreciated in the NBA. Either way, hes gone...good luck to him and thanks for all effort he gave the vols!
