QB:
Justin Worley

RB:
Marlin Lane
Tom Smith

WR:
DeAnthony Arnett
Vincent Dallas

TE:
Cameron Clear
Brendon Downs (Grayshirt)
Brandon Fulse (S&P)

OL:
Antonio Richardson
Marcus Jackson
Kyler Kerbyson
Alan Posey
Mack Crowder (Grayshirt)

DE:
Jordan Williams
Curt Maggit (Or LB)

DT:
Gabe Wright
Trevarris Saulsberry
Maurice Couch
Allan Carson
Mickey Johnson (S&P)

LB:
A.J. Johnson
Christian Harris
Lamar Dawson

CB:
Izauea Lanier
Justin Coleman
Brian Randolph

S:
Pat Martin
Geraldo Orta
Byron Moore

Specialist:
Devrin Young

So...sign 30, enroll 26, S&P 2, Grayshirt 2 (Their grades are good enough to ride a academic scholly)

What do yall think? I don't think we get Jernigan, Turene is no longer visiting, Mackey won't qualify and is done-zo. I do see us getting Mickey, but he's a Sign and Place. Same for Fulse.

Anybody else have an opinion? I know there's a ton of these threads, but i'm more interested in peoples thoughts about grayshirting Crowder and Downs who are both geniuses. There was also another player who signed recently who had an outstanding GPA...can't remember who though.

But thoughts?

Id love it if TN could close this strong, but IMO, its asking too much to expect this kind of Home Run close. TN will likely miss on several of these toss up recruits. Right now getting half of the remaining targets would be great. Then there is no problem with room.

Some are going to go crazy about this, but, in addition to the other names frequently mentioned as greyshirt candidates (Young, Carson), I think Worley is a candidate for a greyshirt. He's going to redshirt, so he may as well greyshirt.

What a good problem to have... Dooley has brought so many positives to this program so far, I hope he can continue that trend.

Phenomenal list, sure hope it works out this way. Do you really think those 2 guys would be willing to be put on an academic scholly instead? I know from things I've read, this is often viewed negatively by players, especially those with larger than life egos.

Personally, if I were one of these players with the potential to earn an academic scholly, I'd see it as an excellent opportunity for me to use my brains and athleticism to help my team make up ground on our competition from a talent and numbers standpoint.

If this happens to end up being the case, then I'd say CDD is the genius for convincing the kids to do it and for convincing the rest to buy in to the plan.

sorry if this is a no brainer but can someone explain to me the difference between a greyshirt and a redshirt? i know a redshirt is usually for injury but thats about all i know.

why do people keep talking about this greyshirt mess? we will not be greyshirting anyone...we have too many scholarship numbers to fill...thats why there is such a thing as invited walk-ons which, by the way, will not be players included in our recruiting class

It really depends on their ACT scores as to if they can get the equivalent of full tuition. I'm not sure what you have to have in order to get full tuition, but, pretty much once you do that, all that's left is meal plan and room and board and books (unless you go to alabama, then you get those free). But I mean, if they have a high enough ACT where they could get a full tuition scholly, there is absolutely no sense in taking a football scholly from someone else. Then, next year, if in the sad situation that their grades drop and they lose that scholly, then they can get a football one, and get counted towards the 85. At least, that's how i understand it.

so since he's not going to play next year he should pay his own way? Not sure too many understand this greyshirt thing and just toss it around like it's no big deal

Redshirts are on scholarship still.

It's okay, I didn't know this until recently.

A redshirt is a player who is on scholarship, and who doesn't play one year, and keeps eligibility. You hear about 5th year seniors? It means, that they redshirted one year, and then played four. If a player takes even one snap in a game, he loses his redshirt status.

A greyshirt is one who is on the team, however is not on a football scholarship, and pays for his own way at least one year. Or it could be a player has other scholarships that pay his way. Either way he is not on a football scholarship. As far as I know, he can still play the first year, it just means they pay their own way.

Am I correct, people who are smarter than I?

take out Fulse, Maggit, and Wright?

Wow I thought UT lead for Wright and Maggit?

lol, no.... Wright is an AU lock.
Supposedly he was at their NC celebration this past weeked, when he told writers on TOS that he was not.

I wouldn't say we are the lead for Maggit, but he is more possible than Wright at this point IMO.

redshirts are not for injury...ideally it would be great to be able to redshirt nearly an entire class as freshmen. this greatly benefits your program and is why you're able to fill an 85 man scholly limit. greyshirting a kid means they will have to pay their own way the first year of school, so suggesting the gatorade POY will possibly be a greyshirt is rediculous.
