Spurrier was always a quitter. The way his career ended is appropriate.

Spurrier quit for one reason, he didn't want any more losses tied to him, even though it was his own fault!

He is a self-centered D#CK and always has been, good riddance!! :the_finger:

Totally agree! Coach Fulmer loved Tennessee. Spurrier loves himself and didn't want the attention of all the end of the year coaching hires to over shadow his retiring. What a pretentious prick. Even the game passed him by just like Richt, Miles, Brown, and Fulmer and so on.

Spurrier evoked strong feelings from opposing fans. That's why I'm pulling for Muschamp to land the SC gig. Another prick to kick around and despise!

Yep, Phil got carried out kicking and screaming and demanded every cent he was owed, and Spurrier said he wasn't getting the job done and walked away with no buyout. Hmm.

Coach Fulmer was a player and coach that loves UT. Coach Fulmer was part of the extremely bad decisions made by a former AD. Coach is All Vol and a VFL. There is no comparison to him and Spurrier and don't deserve to be spoken in the same sentence when it comes to dedication and loyalty.

Spurrier quitting saved SC - $ 3 million
Fulmer fighting cost UT - $ 6 million

Just an interesting fact - DISCUSS

They could've saved the same amount by Spurrier finishing out the rest of the season then walking away. Instead, he quit mid season on the team that he recruited.

Gary Pinkle diagnosed with Lymphoma. Coaches till the end of season.

Steve Spurrier not diagnosed with anything. Quits before mid season.

i can't understand why folks are still complaining about the buyout
It was in his contract, and he was due the money

The worst part of it has been the ****ty hires since firing him

Probably because that buyout was put in a season before he was replaced.

Another story in itself. Pinkle knew what he had back in the spring. He coached the entire season but would've come back had it not been for students, safe places, and what not.

His ego was always more important to him than anything else, even money. You Spurrier apologists can spin it however you want, he quit on his team. What Phil did or didn't do has no effect on that whatsoever. He may have been a great football mind and an innovator in his day (credit where it's due), but he was/is still an egotistical jerk.
