1. Fulmer didn't "build" Tennessee's program.
2. If Fulmer isn't arrogant, Bill Clinton isn't vain.
You think Johnny is bitter, you ain't seen nothin' yet!!!!The reasons why I respect Fulmer are obvious. None of the great coaches want to leave the programs they have built. Fulmer has handled the last 5 years with alot of class. He never went on the defensive until it was apparent. On the hotest hotseats he never appeared arrogant when defending his accomplishments; or used them to establish his "worth."
We wouldn't have traded Fulmer for the world before 2000 nor would he have left for anywhere. His run was long enough that he built some limited equity. I think everyone would have loved to see Fulmer make a run in 2003 or 2004; before crap hit the fan. He won the first National Championship 7 years on the job. And couldn't win an SECC in 10 years. Its understandable that his equity is depleted.
When its done, I hope people layoff Fulmer's shortcomings. There is a place for Fulmer at UT as a living legend. Bama and Auburn are extremely fortunate to have class acts like Stallings and Dye around today. There is no reason why Phil can't assume a similar role as the Ambassador of Football. Because J Majors is a bitter old man, we haven't had on of these since John Ward. I'm sure the drama will be thick, but I really hope it don't turn out like JM.
What does any of that have to do with your ridiculous assertion that Fulmer isn't arrogant?
Considering I'm an outspoken supporter of Bill Clinton, you've further shown you have no idea what you're talking about. The comparison to Clinton just verified what I was dealing with and I didn't want to go there. But if I must....You obviously are so opinionated that you fail to accept good in anything that you are biased about.
On Fulmer being arrogant:
This week is obviously the darkest week in Fulmers career and very well his life. After losing to bama, he was forced to defend his career. He did so by only listing his accomplishments. He didn't do it by bringing up previous coach's shortcomings either. Not only that, he never implied that his accomplishments were worth anything or that he deserved anything because of them. Furthermore, he was just defending his ability to do his job.
But most importantly, he made a point by saying that he nor anyone else was above or more important than UT. I want him gone, but I respected that. Watch the press conference.
