1) That's fair. Let me rephrase:
a- he don't want to leave the program he built half of
b- he don't want to leave the program he rebuilt.

How long had it been since the last National Championship? 4 decades

How many did our biggest Rival win in those 4 decades?
How many UTcoaches didn't win one in those 4 decades?

What was the reason why the majority of these coaches got fired for 4 decades? Couldn't beat Bama

What did Fulmer do that 4 decades worth of coaches couldn't do? Beat Bama 7 straight AND won a NC.

2) 1992-2000: Peace, Prosperity, and a National Championship.

If those weren't the best years in a half century, I can only imagine the hell you are living in now.

I will have mixed feelings. I do feel like change is needed, but it does hurt me to see CPF go out like this.. Yes, I am one of the younger ones on the board so CPF is the only coach I can remember seeing on saturdays. He has given all he can for UT and I wish we he was winning, but I do feel like our best situation right now is to make a change at the HC position.

I have mixed feelings on the man
What comes around....... He didnt exactly get selected for hsi job. He stabbed a close colleague in the back to get it. So maybe this is what he deserves

The other Side- He loves the university and his players very much. Has been good for the school for the most part and avoided any serious probation.

In the end I hope he can have a Lloyd Carr exit. But He didnt have a Lloyd carr entry so I fear it could get ugly especially if he wins out and counts that bowl victory as an "8th win"

We wouldn't have traded Fulmer for the world before 2000 nor would he have left for anywhere. His run was long enough that he built some limited equity. I think everyone would have loved to see Fulmer make a run in 2003 or 2004; before crap hit the fan. He won the first National Championship 7 years on the job. And couldn't win an SECC in 10 years. Its understandable that his equity is depleted.

When its done, I hope people layoff Fulmer's shortcomings. There is a place for Fulmer at UT as a living legend. Bama and Auburn are extremely fortunate to have class acts like Stallings and Dye around today. There is no reason why Phil can't assume a similar role as the Ambassador of Football. Because J Majors is a bitter old man, we haven't had on of these since John Ward. I'm sure the drama will be thick, but I really hope it don't turn out like JM.

Majors AND Fulmer are pure Tennessee; what CPF has done for us is recruit "like heck" (so maybe it is off a rankings list), but he's been good at it; far more so than at coaching. A move from HC to AD Recruiting would seem a smart move, and might secure some of the commitments.

The comparison to Clinton just verified what I was dealing with and I didn't want to go there. But if I must....You obviously are so opinionated that you fail to accept good in anything that you are biased about.

On Fulmer being arrogant:

This week is obviously the darkest week in Fulmers career and very well his life. After losing to bama, he was forced to defend his career. He did so by only listing his accomplishments. He didn't do it by bringing up previous coach's shortcomings either. Not only that, he never implied that his accomplishments were worth anything or that he deserved anything because of them. Furthermore, he was just defending his ability to do his job.

But most importantly, he made a point by saying that he nor anyone else was above or more important than UT. I want him gone, but I respected that. Watch the press conference.

I think one of Fulmers problems was about 2000-2001, he got complacent. He never was one who won with brilliant coaching strategy but he could have made a few changes on both sides of the ball and maybe he wouldn't be in the position he is now. I think one can read some arrogance into that.

The man has been coaching at TN for what 15 years or so and it might be time for him to just move on. He has accomplished alot at TN but it hard to keep coaching and winning in the greatest confrence in the history of NCAA football.
