So how good is Bowling Green?

FWIW, Lindy's has them ranked 45. Higher than South Carolina, Kentucky, and Vandy. Very good offense, very little defense.

That's surprising. We definitely need to take them seriously. But it's just like wku last year in that everyone will say tn bett r look out that's a good team. Then when we win, oh big deal. You were supposed to win. It's bowling green!

Yeah, they are not good. Not at all. People are talking about the offense (because they beat Indiana???) I saw them play S. Alabama...they suck. I hope and pray that the BG QB throws up some of the prayers that he was tossing around in that bowl game. Cam will have a field day.

That was their backup QB. Their starter was hurt last year, and is back this year. UT should win, just hope they don't come out flat. If they do, it could be an interesting afternoon.

Very similar to the Arkansas State Game, UT 42-17. They will score late to get it to that. 24-10 in the middle of the 3rd QT. But we can't pout it in the ground or throw interceptions. If we do, it could be a dog fight.

I can't imagine our running game not putting up 300+ yds . Their teams are almost always well coached but I think we're just gonna be brutal on the ground. It won't matter too much how good they are cause they won't have the depth to stay in it.

Ive roamed their board some. They seem confident in their offense, their defense not so much. Ive seen predictions of them winning by scoring 40+ points on us with us scoring just under that. Jmo if we give up 40 to them its gonna be a long year

Not good enough to win, but good enough to make some people on here scratch their heads. Historically they can't stop anything but they can put up some points. Don't be surprised if it is a high scoring game from both teams.

Not a chance. Our defense is too big and fast to get torched by BG...jeez people.

I think they are just as good as Arkansas State and we beat them by 15.

They are better than Ark St on offense and worse on defense. Our defense will be about the same as it was last year.

I seen them play once last season, and they looked pretty good. I think they will hang around for awhile until our depth and talent takes over.

All we lost was AJ, and we gain khalil, shy, phillips, martin, and an extra year of experience for the rest. I think our D should improve

AJ was the leader of the defense. You feel just as good with Jumper at Mike than you did AJ? Also, Shy and Kahlil are 4th and 5th on the depth chart. They will play, but Kahlil is hurt and it's tough for Freshman DT's to make a huge impact.

I agree on Phillips.

Martin has been hurt all camp. He might play, but is not 100%.
Our senior starting safety is out for the year, and our starting nickel is out for the year.

I fully believe we should win, but when you are facing a team that averages 18 seconds per play and all 11 starters are back, they will be a very tough offense. We should be able to handle them, but who knows.

I understand the confidence, but we beat vandy by 7 last year. I'm not counting many games as an absolute win.

I'll be at the game, but I will reiterate, I would be much more confident if the game was at Neyland. The atmosphere saturday will pale in comparison.

Been around many, many years and have seen UT play hundreds of games...That being said, I hope Butch pounds into our guys this one idea - NEVER, EVER UNDERESTIMATE AN OPPONENT.....Unfortunately, that is common on forums such as this...We will win, in all likelihood, but our guys need to approach it as if BG was an SEC team and go from there....Couldn't stand another Wyo., N. Texas State, etc.

Make them remember you, for as long as they live. The way you hit.

Attack, Attack, Attack...always Attack.

Our defense will be about the same as it was last year.

So the Vols return virtually everyone, get deeper/more talented/more experienced at every position except MLB, and you think it will be about the same?

It will be a MAJOR failure if they do not improve significantly.

They lost their MLB, starting safety, and nickel. They also have several guys banged up. Why are so many forgetting AJ's impact? A lot of the depth you are referring to are freshmen. I'm specifically talking about the BG game, not the entire season. I think many of the freshmen will make an impact on the season, but the first few games take a lot of adjusting to get used to the overall speed.

I didn't realize Khalil was hurt, what happened?

I agree that the atmosphere will pale in comparison to Neyland, but there will still be 50k+, mostly vols fans.

Safety being out doesn't hurt that much, Berry and Kelly are more talented than both the upperclassmen at that posistion. Now one of them gets an opportunity to show it.

Losing Rashan could hurt, but don't count out Foreman

For my .02's worth...

It's possible that both teams come out with 1st game jitters having the usual 1st quarter deadlock as teams do when playing in their first game. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few early turnovers due to an aggressive UT defense that allows Tennessee the early 10 to 14 pt. cushion.

With the injuries to our secondary though, I'd expect BG to test us early and often. They like to run out of the Shotgun primarily so they'll have some opportunities against us if we're limited in pressure against their QB.

UT offense expectations - vanilla. Running the ball effectively and running it some more. This OL needs all the run block experience they can get. Limited snaps for the passing game as I don't expect to see Dobbs put up huge numbers (i.e. 10 to 15 attempts). Oklahoma doesn't need to see all of our cards.

McKenzie will play, but has a hurt shoulder. He has been in a green jersey for about 2-3 weeks in practice.

LWSVOL, one of the more respected posters on the board, just predicted 35-20 UT.

By most of y'all's predictions, many will flip out if that is the score.
