So how does it go the rest of the way?

I would be surprised if UT doesn't win a game this month. Possible but it would be a "shock".

However if that does happen then UT should have an interim coach in place for Troy IMO.

It could very well play out that way. I am nervous that Kirby Smart could be the new guy. I get the feeling Sal would be named Interim and Smart will be announced as new HC shortly after. Of course, I think Sal would be retained.

Agreed. I personally think it would be trading Dooley for Dooley if that happens. I'm not sure it would work.

you will get shut out by bama (much like we will) and you will like it.

I think we lose by at least 14, but UTs offense isnt getting shut out by bama nor any other defense this year. Now I can agree that LSU might get shut out because that offense is absolutely terrible.

BTW, I don't want this to be another thread about replacements... but I think the job is now right for some guys it would have been completely wrong for 3 years ago.

Gary Patterson could step in and win IMO. Petersen may be a little more open now. Even some of the "big fish" coaches that didn't want to do the hard work of rebuilding might take a second look now. I am not sold on Strong's ability but he's an option too.

IMHO, the UT rebuilding job just wasn't attractive to top shelf coaches. Too much risk, too little reward.

@ Miss St- The bulldogs are hot at 5-0 but have they proven anything? The other bulldogs certainly hadn't and got torched by South Carolina. Tennessee will attack early and often against a Miss St. Defense that got smoked by Troy. Tennessee wins by two touchdowns.

Vs Bama- Do I see a blowout? There will be a blowout if Tennessee doesn't bring a strong defense, but they will not give up and Bama will get the win but it's gonna be a whole lot closer than some people think.

@ South Carolina- Spurrier had the gamecocks looking down right scary last week, but let's not forget how overrated Georgia really was. After all, Richt is 0-10 against teams that finished the previous season ranked. I noticed something that ole Bobo didn't or either he was stuck in his rushing ways. South Carolina's D may get pressure but if you pass, pass, pass, they get confused and worn down. Uga did it on one drive and it worked, why they kept going back to the run that was getting stuffed is beyond me. Chaney oughtta be happy here, Tennessee wins slinging the ball.

Vs Troy- Troy is pesky but they won't be pesky enough.

Vs Mizzou- Well, they are having a tougher transition to the SEC than their fans thought. They are plagued with injuries and their team chemistry is split. Vols win easy.

@Vandy- Franklin is still pissed about last year and this year isn't any easier, Tennessee blows em out.

Vs Kentucky- Kentucky is bad, very very bad. This one wont be a contest as a very pissed off Tennessee team gets their revenge and the streak starts again.

I see a January bowl game coming as the Vols turn this year around and end with a record of 9-3.

Sounds good to me!

Man, has it come down to this? AAMOF, I thought it possible last spring that should Tennessee lose to Miss St, Bama, & USCe, & look bad in doing so, Hart would ask Dooley to step down.

Which brings up an interesting scenario. You're sitting in Dave Hart's chair as UT's AD. What do you do if the above plays out? Name an interim coach, letting the world know early that the HC position will be open? Or let Dooley finish out another dismal (by Tennessee standards) season before giving him the pink slip? Which strategy would net the best HC for 2013?

The sooner they would name a new HC the better. Recruiting suffers everyday their is an open coaching spot on a team. I don't like the idea of Kirby, but I doubt he could be any worse. IF Hart is looking to stay in the 2 million dollar range, Smart may be a decent option. IF we can spend the $$, there would be at least 1/2 a dozen calls I would make before Smart. JMO

I agree that bigger name coaches would be interested IF, IF, Hart was putting the money on the table. If he tries to go budget minded, We could be in trouble and have to roll the dice on someone like Smart and hope he turns into a good coach as alot of people expect he would. Strong, Patterson, Peterson, Holgerson would all be calls I made if we were looking to spend 3-5 million per.

I think it would take 3+ to get Strong, 4 to get Holgerson, and 4.25 for Patterson or Peterson.

How can you not be budget minded when the AD is in the red. But drowning in red ink is ok as long as you get what you want ? :dunno::confused:

$3-5M gets you into the elite coaches category. Derek Dooley is paid $1.8M/yr, one of the lowest salaries among SEC HCs, according to Coaches Hot Seat 2012 (!!) Even Hugh Freese at Ole Miss gets $2M, and Nick Saban tops the list at $5.3M. The ole ball coach, surprisingly, "only" makes $2.8M.

Coach Dooley, BTW, has the 2nd hottest seat in the country according to that website...

Yes. Young people and their jargon spin me into a new dimension of total confusion.

Ok, how much do you know?

First off, the LSU fans are called corndogs because they all smell like corndogs.

Do you remember Brian, the Bama fan who teabagged an LSU fan last January?

Brian has been found guilty of sexual assualt and is now facing jail time in the state of Louisiana.

Do you see where we headed here...?

The only reason Chavis left UT is because he was let go. Miles was wise to snap him up. Chavis is a natural DC, and good at it with the right talent.

I cannot see him as a HC. He's in his comfort zone, and he's staying there. Period.

If you want to speculate, try your hand at measuring the meltdown in Baton Rouge after LSU loses back-to-back games.

Might want to shift your attention to an OC; that's where LSUs' weakness lies.

Go Vols.

Im pulling for SC in that game, really prefer them winning the East if we cant. Dont think they beat LSU in BR. ESPN had a stat on Miles, he is like 38-1 in BR at night with his only loss being to Flor. Just dont see LSU losing 2 weeks in a row especially at home and at night. SC had a once a year or every few yrs game last week against GA. Nothing could go wrong last week and not likely it happens back to back weeks. Odds just arent in the Cocks favor. They can lose this one and beat UF next week and basically wrap up the East. But hope I'm wrong and Miles gets that 2nd loss.

Totally DELUSIONAL!!!

We will be fortunate to finish 7-5. After we go 0 for October AGAIN, we will finish 7-5 if (and it is an if) we don't stub our toe against Troy, Mizzou, Vandy, or Kensucky (again).
