So How Did The Rock Get on Campus?...

It's an asteroid chip. When I was visiting Knoxville back in, uh, hmm, 1965 I saw this streaking light in the sky. As it descended I realize it was going to crash into Neyland Stadium. I ran up Gay Street, took a hard left at Hill Avenue, a hard right onto Main Street. However, I miscalculated. I fumbled the asteroid fragment just as we both arrived at Neyland and it took a weird bounce landing in the place you see it today.

Been trying to determine this and all I can find from a story about its movement is that it was maybe from the 1960's, weighs a couple hundred thousand lbs, and is dolomite rock...anyone know the story on this UT tradition and why/how it came to be right there at the corner?

That is where God put it.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Dee-Ah-Go... which of course in German means "a whale's vagina"...

Much thicker than .005, remember these kids are drunk and covering previous paintings. .005 would prob refer to the average sprayed coat I would think. A brushed coat would be much thicker I'd imagine. Would be cool if we could sandblast one layer at a time and reveal coats from the 85 Bama game, or the 51 season. Archaeology student thesis IMO

That's not the question that was posed. He wants to know where it came from originally.

And on the 7th day God created the Rock so that it can be painted.

Actually it was the 8th day...

"And God said, Let us create something that will be used to inspire the volnation, it will be called The Rock: and God saw that it was good."
