To redshirt you can play in 4 games. Maurer has played in 5. He cannot redshirt.

If he doesn't play anymore this year he may file for a medical redshirt. This would be up to the NCAA.

So he is not eligible under the rules regarding games played but he may have a case for a medical redshirt due to the limited amount of time he was available during his appearances.

Medical Red Shirt would not be approved until after his 4th year. Then it may not get approved because you have Pruitt on press conference last Monday saying all 3 QB's are cleared to play.

This is very true. I was amazed Pruitt said that in the press conference. That statement is also why I feel Maurer didn't play due to not being needed and not due to injury.

There's no redshirt issue for Maurer. Such talk is nothing but internet fodder for clueless fans. He'll play if CJP thinks he can help us win. He's not going to hold him out in hopes of a medical redshirt in 4 yrs. Pruitt such as hell ain't worrin' about that right now.

I believe CJP said Maurer didn't get enough reps in practice to play. He could've played if it was critical.

I wouldn't say all 3 games yet but I think he plays against UK. He may not start but Pruitt will pull you for a bad play, so it could be a mixed bag. Also CJP will not play his hand on starter to help Stoops any. I think CJP now has confidence that 1 of the 3 can have a hot hand or at least be consistent on a given night. A different view on the QB's than he had before USCe.

Yes. If he had not gotten injured, he would be the starter now. Unfortunate for all of us.

Not sure he would be able to apply (or at least have a chance to get) the medical redshirt. From what I've read you have to have the season ending injury in the first half of the season, his was the first game of the second half. And you can't play in more than 4 games which he has played 5.

I still will be surprised if he's not the starting QB Saturday and (if healthy) the remainder of the year. Would be a big boost for the team if he is available

Medical redshirt is no longer a separate deal. Four games is the limit for any type of redshirt, no matter the circumstances.

If a player misses two full seasons due to injury (under the 4-game mark), then they can apply for a hardship for a 6th year of eligibility, but that is the only place the Medical Hardship Waiver still applies.
