Both IMO. Auburn beat Washington and they have been really tough under CP. Problem is opposing teams that have seen film on Auburn have taken advantages of their weaknesses (O line in particular). Gus M. has done a horrible job of countering to the adjustments opposing teams have made.

The problem with Auburn's offense is that it relies a lot on misdirection and trying to trick opposing defenses as opposed to coming right at them. Gus doesn't do misdirection as a chance of pace or a wrinkle to keep defenses honest; it's an integral part of his offense. When an opposing offense figures it out, he really struggles to make adjustments to it.

lol waiting for this thread....... the negavol in everyone is soooo entrenched that it is hard to admit when we play a good game. I would say it is 90% of us playing better and throwing it down field, and 10% of Auburn no executing their plan.

Good observation. One thing I noticed Saturday is that Gus M. underutilizes some of his talented guys that can make plays in space. For instance, the player with last name of Schwartz should get 10-12 touches a game minimum. He made our DBs look silly on his TD reception

Aub stuff hitting (almost) too close to home. Just goes to show that when probably any of the top traditional SEC teams starts to go to hell in a hand basket, folks go mental. Auburn offense right now reminds me of UT offense last year. They have a QB that can't run the RPO because he is not a threat to run nor is their running game a threat as well. I saw somewhere that we only gave up 10 yards rushing in the second half against AU. That's awesome! This was a great win for so many reasons and one we can hopefully look back on and say it was the turning point for our program.

Auburn pretty much lost their entire offensive line from last year. They also lost their power runner in Pettway.

I think it is a good mix of both here. Regardless of the score, UT stepped up their defense against UGA as the game went on. Pruitt is the first UT coach in a long time that actually showed positive results from a bye week. Very refreshing.

To lose your best rb + almost-entire OL, or lose your best rb + RETURN your almost-entire 0-8 SEC OL? Which is preferable ??

I was shocked we were in the game at half. And then when we took the lead I lost my mind. But Auburn looked the worst I've seen under Gus.

Not saying it was entirely the Defense but I feel some aren't given the Vols D the credit they deserve. Could Auburn have possibly looked the worst they have all season because the Vols Defense has really improved and were effective Saturday?

Because you can't beat Bama and UGA last year and get beat 3 times the next year and it's halfway in the season. They have 3 more losses coming. Either way I'm proud of the VOLS!!!

Some of both. Vols have clearly improved their level of play, but it looks to me like Auburn was never as good as advertised and is getting worse as their season goes on.

Good assessment. I think that we played above our level against Auburn and way below against Charlotte. To make a bowl we need another auburn type game against Kentucky or Missouri.

We had a good game plan vs Auburn and our guys played “outta their minds” if you will. We need two more of those games.
