So Glad Muschamp Turned Down TN

Texas's coaching staff is falling apart, poor Mack.

Could be poor us. Jim Chaney's name is now starting to surface on the list of replacements for the Texas OC position on the boards at Hookem.com :

Nothing to panic about yet, just one name among several, but Bobby Burton has very good info on the Texas program, so something to keep an eye on. I'd hate to lose Chaney at this stage of Bray's development.

That would be bad for us. I cannot see Chaney leaving for the same position after he stuck around after last year

It's a press conference.

I know of no gator fan who didn't think the press conference was positive.

But, who cares. It's a press conference.

What do you want him to do, talk about the florida tradition of beating tennessee and singing the fight song all year long?

If this hire was a firework, it would be a lady finger, or one of them snap-pops you throw on the ground.

im gonna laugh my a** off when ga fires richt and he leaves for ga

Not. Gonna. Happen.

although i am glad he turned us down now, it still kinda pisses me off how he denied us but didnt hesitate to head to the lizard pool.

And for less money, too!

Plus, he will he on the hot seat in 2 years if he isnt in the SECCG at florida.

Sucks to have expectations.

(Really I'm just pulling your chain, guys. I lived in Morristown and Bristol for a few years and my first wife was an ETn gal whose cousin played for Pat Head, so I know how passionate you are about the Vols.

I usually like seeing the Vols win as long as they're not playing Fl. Looking forward to the days when the third Saturday in September means something again!)

I was hesitant about his ability until I learned he had a beautiful black lab, "Maggie", and that really pushed it over the top for me. Can't imagine the guy being anything but a huge success at Florida.

The rosters weren't comparable. Can't fault him.

Certainly true. Plus, situation in Texas was better last year. Additionally, he grew up in Gainesville, as a Gator fan.

Absurd to imagine that a person under those circumstances, would view the two job opportunities as comparable.

If so, that means that all of the Vol fans here, would just as soon coach at Bama or Florida as UT if in his position. Ridiculous.

From listening to the press conference it seems as though Derek Dooley is much more polished, all around, than Will Muschamp. I know wins are the only thing that matters, but if you just compare the two introductory press conferences their is no comparison. I like Derek Dooley and the job he has done thus far. I believe he is going to do great things at Tennessee. Here's to no regrets on signing the Ball Coach from Louisiana Tech! Go Vols!

This.

CDD is a polished speaker and WM is, well, not.

IMO this was the most important part of Dooley's speech:

"I'm not going to sell this program and what we're about to do in a sound bite; it's impossible. I can tell you this -- everything we're going to do is going to be with a foundation of integrity in every aspect of the program. We're going to represent this institution with class, on and off the field, and we're going to be a fun team to watch -- by how we compete, the effort that we give, the togetherness and spirit that we play with.

"There are going to be bumps along the way; there always are. But I can assure you we are going to forge ahead, we'll always be growing and developing as a program, and I'm excited about what the future holds at Tennessee.

I heard none of this in WM's speech. He was too busy defending himself & sucking up to CUM, I guess.

With the talent that team has anything less than a 7 win season in his first year should have Gator fans worried.

I would have been excited about the Muschamp hire at UT, and I dont know his reasons for jumping all over the UF job and turning down the UT job, but from the outside looking in, it makes him seem like he may not be aggressive enough.

Disclaimer: I absolutely hate hate Colin Cowherd, but one of his points that he constantly harps on, and I agree with, is that the difference between a great coordinator and a great head coach is leadership and drive. Coach Dooley was an assistant under Saban, and he took a far less glamorous job as a head coach (and AD) at LA Tech. Now he's moved up to head coach as a major football university.

Muschamp has been Mack's #2 for years, and until recently, seemed perfectly content with it. He even turned down an opportunity for head coach at (the original) UT. I mean the circumstances weren't perfect, but UT head coach will never be a bad gig.

I can't know for sure, but it seems to me that Muschamp only wants to move up to head coach when the circumstances are perfect. He doesn't want to deal with the challenge of rebuilding a program, and if you ask me, that's not someone who is long term head coach material.

I think he'll have a few good or great years, coasting on the extremely talented roster Meyer built. He'll recruit well initially based on the hype of the program and himself, but he won't go anywhere spectacular.

Also, if anyone speaks with Peyton Manning. Tell him next time he introduces himself for a game he should say, "Peyton Manning, the 'original' UT." That needs to catch on. I'm sick of these Texas goons saying they're from "the real" UT. If that's the case, we should be "the original" UT.
