Now, I do question how good at their jobs Plowman and Boyd are. So I guess I could not discount your statement. I would just say, even when someone requests that, as a manager you do not have to say yes and execute it.
I've already stated I disagreed with both extensions given by Plowman and Boyd. So irrelevant to me if they were asked. it was a mistake and totally on them. They did not have to grant either of them.
Everybody has a learning curve whenever they begin a new job, even if it is in the same field. I wonder how much them giving the raises and extensions were about them not micromanaging or the learning curve or just as with Davenport and DiPietro, not very good at their jobs?
I don’t really care, guy is a vol for life.
But they should confiscate any keys he has to the AD and tell him never apply again. Ride off into the sunset, enjoy retirement, and let it go.
Ha Ha, totally agree. And, to add, never, ever give them back!
Foolmer doesn't deserve another cent.
As I've said, millions upon millions and all we have to show for it is a 15 year dumpster fire that he started, lit and let burn!
With the possible exception of Hamilton, he might be the one most responsible for the downfall of Tennessee. Needs to go back to Winchester.
Two losing seasons in his last four years after the downward trajectory. Hamilton clearly did not either hire the right replacement or didn't have the contract where it protected us!
Fulmer's contract was clear. If he was fired by UT, he was owed 50% of his remaining based on the extension given last May. And I am sure that all falls on Plowman. They let him leave gracefully, but don't let that make you think he wasn't ushered out of the building.
Oh, I am sure we all know he was not told to hit the door but shown! Had he retired on his own, we would not be paying him over $37,000 per month! The first time they paid him over six million!
That might be true, but that’s life. Fulmer only wanted to surpass Gen Neyland in wins and would have stayed as long as necessary to do so, even 3 win seasons would get him there eventually. Good riddance.
That was entirely the reason. I always felt he thought everyone owed him that and that he WAS Tennessee football and no matter what we owed him staying to achieve that record regardless of the football program!
In the press conference with Plowman and Boyd, Fulmer CLEARLY says he retired and Plowman said so also.
I doubt he had a clause where he got guaranteed money even if he retired.
Again, as mentioned above and by other posters, we all know he was shown the door. They absolutely did a face saving exit for him but even that press conference felt fake as 4e!!.
You really believe because PF stated in a press conf. that he retired that's what really happened? UT admin let him save face and say he is retiring when he was really told to leave. Happens all the time in the working world with top execs, etc. They couldn't prove he did anything to fire him so they just got rid of him. He was part of the problem.
He was the problem. He was the problem 13 years ago, he was the problem behind the Schiano failure after effects and the problem behind the single worst Tennessee football program in history.
And yet, many on here were all for the extension.
Isn't that something. Amazing how winning cures all?
Negotiation 101 - Don't bid against yourself (i.e., you don't extend a coach without leverage). 13-12 with no other interested schools plus a GSU beatdown = no leverage
Leave it to Fulmer
People seem to ignore this fact.
At first I ignored the situation with the transition with Johnny and appreciated Fulmer. But as time has passed I can see where Johnny was coming from, especially, with Fulmer backdooring the previous AD and undermining him to take his job. I will never call Fulmer names, but I have no respect for him on any level. As a coach, he took over an A- program and left it with a failing grade. JMHO.
I remember the TV interview with Majors at the restaurant when Fulmer was fired as coach. Just wonder how he would have reacted and handled this firing had he still been alive?
He has friends in the right places
Has too! Can be the only reason he was even in position to get the AD job in the first place!
