Last week Bruce Feldman had this to say in regards to recruiting:

James Franklin has more recruiting momentum and more to sell than Dooley does right now.

I went on to debate whether Dooley (and/or UT) had more momentum in recruiting than Franklin. I said Feldman's comments were laughable, albeit infuriating, and that Vandy isn't even in the same HEMISPHERE as UT in what they sell to recruits.

Some thought his comments were on point.

So....still feel that way?

All you need to know is probably 70% of our class was being chased by power house div1 teams and vandy can say that about 10% or so. kimbrow is probably the only player i can think of off top of my head that had alot of good teams after him. jelks had a couple.im pretty sure azubike didnt have any bigtime offers. oh i forgot, noone else in the country can evaluate talent like sunshine pumper, hes the best thing since sliced bread.

Out of all the recruits that Vandy have signed according to rivals only 2 (Kimbrow and Jelks) had a UT offer. I know that is 2 too many but still Vandy isn't exactly beating us with recruits?

And more to sell? Sell what? A 30,000 stadium that is only filled when Bama and UT play in it? Bowl game once every 10 years? Franklin has taken advantage of Bobby Johnson's aggressive redshirt policy in his first year. Pretty much every upper classmen on Vandy's squad has been redshirted. Franklin is selling quick playing time but Vandy is going to learn as we have that playing true freshman and sophomores in key positions in the SEC is usually a disaster.

That's right. I've never rooted so hard against Vandy before until Franklin came.

I've heard Franklin engages in some very shady recruiting tactics. If what I'm hearing is correct (and I have every reason to believe it is), he truly is following in the footsteps of Kiffin in the number of recruiting violations. In fact, Vandy is lucky it's not subject to Tennessee's Freedom of Information Act because if the media got a hold of Franklin and his staff's phone records, Vandy would be in some serious trouble.

Once sunshine pumper brings them into that changed culture he has created at vandy they are really going to bloom. Atleast 13-14 future all americans in his current class IMO

I don't doubt it.

Vandy has momentum, but it's all relative. You can sell what you're doing and how great it is, and there certainly are programs that develop and have a few good seasons behind them. You can't deny Vandy's relative success last year, but again, it requires perspective. When you go from 2-12 to 6-6 or whatever, it seems like you're doing great things, but in reality, you've gone from the worst to mid-grade. Vandy must be the most hyped completely average football team in the country right now (if for nothing else than for Franklin's Kiffin-esque flamboyance following losses). But programs that bring in the big names and continue to do so year after year, like Tennessee, do so based off the strength of their legacy and continued ability to develop athletes and turn them into NFL-quality prospects. In that regard, Vanderbilt has no momentum. Teams like Tennessee are expected to do well, and that expectation in itself is a draw to a lot of players. Vanderbilt gave the NFL Jay Cutler. UT gives the NFL the Jerod Mayos, Peyton Mannings, Arian Fosters, Peerless Prices, Eric Berrys, Reggie Whites, etc., that these recruits want to be one day. I mean, let's just compare Wikipedia numbers here:

All-time record:
UT: 792-345-53
Vandy: 564-573-50

Postseason Bowl Record:
UT: 26-24
Vandy: 2-1-1

Claimed National Titles
UT: 6
Vandy: 0

SEC Conference Titles
UT: 16
Vandy: 0

Consensus All-Americans
UT: 72
Vandy: 30

Since the start of the 2000 season Vanderbilt has record of only 36–93 and 14–74 in SEC play. This averages to only 3 wins and 9 losses a year.

In 2005, Vanderbilt finished with a 5–6 record, the program's best finish since 1999.

You're comparing a program with a legacy of winning with one of losing. The one that's losing will never have the same draw.

OCI, what's with the Wilcox to ASU rumors?

They're 3rd on my hate list behind Bama and UF now. Can't stand those pricks.

They were never relevant enough to hate. I almost felt sorry for them...then Franklin came along. I'm like you now....Bama, Florida, and Vandy are my least favorite schools....well throw in whatever team Kiffin is coaching.

I would take Terry Bowden over Dooley. He is just biting to get back into the big boy league.

So, Skeeter, OCI....is Franklin all flash and no substance?? I have my opinions, just curious about yours.

Wow, of all the dumb things that you have posted this is by far the dumbest. He may be itching to get back, but there is a good reason that no big time program is interested.
