So, about that OC position.... (Merged)

Hyams on 104.5 The Zone this morning opined that hiring Sarkisian would be a huge mistake and CJP needs to hire someone with an understanding of SEC offenses.
Hyams talks everyday here in Knoxville and is repeatedly misquoted from those listening to 104.5.

What is an SEC offense? Hell, Bama runs mostly out of the shotgun, and uses all kinds of RPO.
UF is running a spread. UGA is more traditional pro set. Auburn is a read option spread. There are several varieties of offense in the SEC.

Holidays are over the ESD is over. WTF is the friggin issue with getting an OC? Do coaches not like UT or do they not trust Fulmer or Pruitt?? Almost sounds like we are on thin ice and it’s bout to break through. If nothing by the weekend the crap hire is looking more and more likely....

At this point, what's the hurry? Whether it's tomorrow or two weeks from now, it will have taken a long time.

little of column a, little of column b

Tennessee doesn't look great right now considering the offensive line probably needs to be totally redone to really compete, but man I wonder if Fulmer or Pruitt don't have a good rep behind the scenes -- neither would totally surprise me given that Fulmer essentially has done two coups for both head coach and athletic director and that Pruitt's had rumors since his time at FSU about how he goes about things.

It's weird how long this thing has gone on for and even if you're looking at NFL guys, you'll have something in place for them as soon as they get fired/resign. Not to mention, the college coaching search season is past us now for the most part. Nothing about the timing or how this has all played out screams competence.

Disclaimer, I don’t have any inside info, just a hunch. All the college games will have been played and I don’t see any of the future OC’s on Bama or Clemson’s teams. Plus all the NFL teams are set for the playoffs.

If I’m wrong then so be it, but I just see tomorrow as being as good as any day after it....nothing else to wait for.

If CJP does promote from the staff, I have to question his judgement in not announcing it. Why delay and suffer the rumors which make him and UT look unattractive and incompetent.
Nothing about this search shows that UT is unattractive or that Pruitt and Fulmer are incompetent. VN, the media, and the so-called insiders don't have a clue who, or even, if anyone has been offered the job. The length of the search is not disconcerting either. Has anyone on here heard Pruitt say: "I've offered the job to A, B or C?" or have you heard it straight from his mouth that it won't be somebody on staff." The bottom line is this, we all have opinions and fortunately, from what I've read, VN faithful aren't the ones making the decision.

You have no options with an OC's hired by other school. Whether Pruitt has offered anyone or not, who knows. However, if you will re-read my post, the point was why the delay IF he promotes from the existing staff. IF that becomes a reality, I don't see the logic or reason for waiting. I like CJP and assume the OC will not be an existing staff member, but if it is, the delay makes no sense to me and will give the appearance the UT OC position is unattractive. I guess the competency factor will play out regardless of who is hired. So point taken.

Yep, at this point I hope it goes on another two weeks.
If they have their guy I don't care when they announce.

If they don't and it continues to drag on we're hiring Whoami McGoogleme. And that is a problem, in fact it may be a sign of much bigger issues.

I'm ready to put this to bed so we can move on to next season.

I am disappointed we didn’t get Yurcich, even more disappointed word got out about the offer. There are other good coaches out there. I hope Philip and Pruitt have a list ready and are making the next offer. I don’t want to see every offer in the news.

The NFL’s example of focusing on the measurable in the draft as a means to victory plus bama’s dominance based upon its treasure trove of talent garnered through recruiting prove the thesis that “without the Jimmies and Joes” you can’t win, or more team size strength, speed and intelligence increases the probability of victory. Assuming the truth of the thesis, why is coach Pruitt wrong when he says “the OC position is overrated” if the goal is wins? If recruiting is paramount we need recruiters who bring in the players more than an OC. An average OC can win with great talent. Is this the mind of Pruitt?

Dude... put down the keyboard so early on a Wednesday morning. Your thesis isn’t due for a few more days; save us from reading too many proofs.

A buddy of mine who has no links to the University but loves the program and gets all of his information from Volquest (too expensive) stated that his understanding is some of the guys we have offered have called Helton to ask about the job. Helton is being respectful but is basically stating Pruitt is a hard a$$ who works you to death. That has scared a few away. We are a complete rebuild at this point and if you are unwilling to put in the work then I don't want you if I am honest.
