Sorry I've taken so long to reply to your answer to my question; there was some trouble getting the boy to sleep tonight.
Your criteria are reasonable, although your patience is obviously higher than mine. I guess in my eyes we failed at some of them this past year, even though it was supposed to be our big comeback year. We didn't compete against Arkansas; we kept it close against two other teams that were obviously superior, even though we were far physically outmanned. We sleepwalked through yet another bowl game against an inferior opponent, and their running back crowed after the game about how our defense was soft. All in all, while we didn't lose games to Alabama, South Carolina, and Vandy this year, I didn't see anything to convince me that we've done much to close that gap with the top teams in the conference we were talking about earlier.
LSU and UF had much better teams last year than they will have this year. The gap will close and I wouldn't be suprised if LSU and UF are trying to "close the gap" after this season.
How is Oklahoma in the same boat as UT? That's completely ridiculous. And even though Michigan has somewhat disappointed lately, they've still been in a few BCS bowls in the last few years. Neither of those schools are in the same boat as UT.
Wrong. Oklahoma is going to become the next UT. Just look at their recruiting the past few years. They've lost to Texas back to back and are going to lose to them for a long time. Also Miami is defidently in the same boat. They've done nothing the past 3 years, and they just got a new coach. FSU is obviously in our position right now.
Before the last two years, OU completely owned Texas. They'll get back to that shortly. Regardless, they just won their conference. There's tons of talent on that team right now. They should win the Big 12 next year. I don't give a crap about recruiting rankings. Honestly, this is one of the most ridiculous comparisons I've seen around here in quite awhile.
That's a little extreme, and I dont see what you are getting so fired up about. Honestly, their program could go in two directions based on the fact that they don't have an established qb. Maybe putting them in the same boat as us is a little extreme, but they are in danger none the less.
They didn't have an established QB last year. They won the Big 12. Additionally, they could lose every single game next year and their head coach wouldn't be fired.
Look in all the preseason magazines every year since they won the natl. championship they have finished lower in the rankings then what they were predicted every single time.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Preseason predictions, for the most part, are awful. There are only a couple magazines that have a clue.
Agreed. Question. What magazines do you think have a clue?
actually, that's a great point......it's one thing to be in the top 2 or 3 every year, another to be outside the top 3 most years and ever now and then finish 2nd.Here is a pretty non-arguable stance:
2nd place a year or 2 or 3 after an SEC championship season is fine with me. A 2nd place finish 8 years after an SEC championship is not fine with me.
Can you see the difference, IE?
:dunno:Tennessee:The SEC's version of Texas Tech.
unfotunately i agree.....it's a different animal these days.Exactly . . . It's a fact of life in the age of 85 scholarships that every team has good players. Gone are the days of the routine 49-0 blowouts of D-1A opponents.
we should have lost that game truth be known.Oh man, wasn't UT down by quite a bit that day? I spent most of the day working in the woods and getting radio updates every now and then.
 agreed. There's a big difference between being picked #1 and finishing #3 and being picked #3 and going 5-6.
